New DVD drive into PS2?

Post by mdmfootball82 »

Hey I just wanted to know if its possible to put a new DVD player into the PS2 I want to put a slot loading DVD drive into a PS2 but I haven't ever seen it done or even attempted before. If anyone know if it will work that would be great!

Well you can change the laser if you know what model number the ps2 is, I only have messed with fat ps2's before tho, If it's a slim ps2 I would think you could to, but i don't know if you can change the way the disks insert. If this is the ps2/xbox combo your making, I would suggest just making it have flip tops like the slim ps2/psone. You could make that with a slim ps2, or a fat ps2 without much trouble. Well I hope that was of some help to you. :)

I mean like changing the whole disk drive in the PS2. Like take out the old one and put in a slot loading dvd drive. Would this work or not?

Nope, just go with the old disk drive, or the fliptop. The ps2 needs it's original disk drive to work, a different one would not work, even the disk drive from a ps2 with a different model number won't work, and if you wanted to do that to the xbox, it's the same deal sorry.

I know that some DVD drives can be used with an Xbox, but they need to be flashed with custom firmware in order to work.

Any Idea which ones will work? Any slot loading ones? Also where can I find this firmware?

I don't remember where I saw it, but it was a fairly short list of drives. You can probably find something out about them at xbox-scene.com.

With Xbox it can be done It takes a Hatachi Drive i have one its a lot better and faster loading, but with ps2 no, can't do it not possible i have tried because ps2 has a ps2 cable but xbox has a IDE cable, best way to get faster loads for the ps2 is buy a 3rd party laser (always seems that 3rd party stuff works better, but only for the ps2). Cheers^_^
