Good idea, or worst idea on Earth?

Post by Super Cameraman »

I love my DS lite. The only thing I love more then my DS lite is my friend's DS lite. Why? His is new. Mine is crap. It works... I guess, but I really just want a new one. So my idea is to trade in my DS lite at GameStop for another DS lite. How much money would I have to pay? Or can Nintendo fix it? Here's a list of all the problems.

Hinge Crack
Dead Pixel
L button doesn't always work
A button doesn't always work (It's like I run out of gas in MarioKart...)
Hinge feels weird
It's dirty
Touch screen is uncalibratable.

Or would anyone like to trade a DS lite and a bunch of games, for a new DS lite without games?

I think your idea is about the best. wait until a local game store has a trade in bonus day or something, trade it in for I'm guessing about $65 and put that into another one.

I hear the black ones have fewer problems then the white ones. maybe that's just superstition.

You might be able to get a brand new DS Lite from Nintendo if you tell them about the dead pixel and the Hinge Crack

Otherwise, Sell it to Gamestop or wherever, don't tell them about the A and L buttons, plus dont say anything about the calibration. Try to clean it up with a wet washcloth and microfiber cloth.

But check with Nintendo, and if they turn it down, sell it doing the above and you might get around $50-60 for it. If you were to sell it, I'd sell all your games and then depending on how many you have and how much cash you get, save about $170 so you can buy a new DS Lite and an R4 with 1 GB microSD card.

x2. It should still be covered under the 1-year factory warranty, and they definitely cover hinge cracks and dead pixels. I'm pretty sure that for dead pixels they will just give you a brand new unit.

Try cleaning the case with some rubbing alcohol or Fantastik. You might get a couple more bucks for it if it looks halfway decent.

Nintendo might replace it if you send it to them for the dead pixel and hinge.

Shouldn't matter. They all come with a 1-year warranty and it was released in June of 06. They're all still under warranty and I'm sure they'll replace his.

Already have an EZ-Flash V!

Actually, I forgot, but Nintendo already sent me the sticker for the package for the dead pixel and hinge crack. I just forgot to send it in because I love it so much. How long does Nintendo keep it?

So... I guess I'm all set. I got in on June 11th last year (The day it came out in the US) so that's under a year. Thanks for the help... I guess.

What'd you do to it? I don't know if DS lite is just more fragile than normal DS or if I'm just lucky but my DS gets dropped regularly and it works fantastic.

Well I don't drop mine. A lot.

It's almost always in my backpack, which is always getting thrown around. The hinge crack is a factory error, and so in the dead pixel. So the only thing I really did to it is play it.

Didn't read anything but the first post:

Here's what I say to you:

Hinge Crack - Superglue
Dead Pixel - Poke it then turn it on and let go
L button doesn't always work - Clean it
A button doesn't always work (It's like I run out of gas in MarioKart...) - Clean it
Hinge feels weird - Clean it
It's dirty - Clean it
Touch screen is uncalibratable. - What's the need?

No.
Tried it.
How?
How?
Okay...
No, I mean the mechanics of the hinge feel wierd.
It's off. A lot. I downloaded a piano, and when I press one key, it thinks I'm pressing the key next to it. Also, a random key all the way at the bottom will sometimes play when I'm not even near it. Calibrating it doesn't help.
