Xbox Softmodding
I want to softmod my NTSC-U Xbox (not 360), I don't care about xbox live (at all) and don't care if I lose the ability to play on live during the mod, my xbox isn't the 1.6 model, so it doesn't have a video card unsupported by the softmod installer. My friend has the right copys of Mechassault, Splinter Cell, and 007: AIF and the right action replay/gameshark. Now, I want to use this to play backups, homebrew, and emulators (Yes, REAL backups) My questions are:
1. What's the best game to use to install the softmod.
2. What's the best dashboard to use.
3. Can I do this without updating xbox dash through live?
4. Do I REALLY need to backup my xbox to my PC?
5. Can I have some links to the Softmod files?
Thanks in advance,
-Derek

Let me rephrase that, you can't flash the TSOP on a 1.6 xbox, i'd say you have about a 50/50 shot at softmodding a 1.6 xbox since some of them have a newer video card that is unsupported by the softmodding process and you'll just get a distorted/blurry image.Jongamer wrote:What 1.6 cant be soft modded?

I think I'll use 007: AIF, considering you need to swap with an audio CD for the MechAssualt exploit, and the Splinter Cell exploit is split into two saves. I'll borrow the GameShark and Action Replay (Whichever one works) And the games these next few games. Thanks, you guys are ver helpful around here.Harshboy wrote:Listen to Titanium...I agree with what he says. If you need help during installation, feel free to IM me (But only if you use 007 or Mechassault)
Hope it goes wellI love my modded Xbox

With the backup thing, I don't know how to FTP anything from my PC to Xbox or the other way around and I'm not even sure I have the equipment to do it. I know there is an option in the softmod installer to backup the M$ dash to the HD, and I'll definentally do it, but is it really necessary to do a backup to the PC's HD as well?TitaniumHamster wrote:1. Mechassault
2. EvolutionX (EvoX)
3. yes
4. no, but you should.
5. Google.

I don't know much about PCs and FTP, but i love Transmit for Mac.
However, it can't be to hard to FTP something to your xbox through windows.
Get a router
Get eithernet cables
Get FTP client
You've got everything you need!
"Is backing up the HD really nessesary?"
No, it's not. Not at all. The Xbox won't go, "Oh, ausername, i won't work for you becuse you diddnt back me up." However, if the Xbox starts not working for you for an unexplained reason, you're gonna really need those old files that you diddnt back up beacuse you were to lazy. It's easy to do, anyway.

I just softmoded my 1.6 xbox with the splinter cell game save and it was very easy (once I did all the research needed.) I used my thumb drive as a memory card, saved the game save from pc to thumb and then to xbox. Loaded the game, chose the linux option and it did the rest... very simple once I knew how to do it. Splinter cell was very easy and proven to work on my 1.6 Xbox.
how do you do the thumb drive thing? please enlighten me with a linkchanticlair281 wrote:I just softmoded my 1.6 xbox with the splinter cell game save and it was very easy (once I did all the research needed.) You don't need to back up your xbox to your PC. Just back up your xbox onto another partition on your xbox. What I did. Lots of people will tell you that EvoX is the best, but I don't think so. It is ok for newbs, but not for us experienced people. UnleashX has a built in filemanager, and actually works correctly. (EvoX doesn't allow you to play some games, and requires you to restart your xbox to play a game).

I can backup to the HD no problem, I've done some more research about this and actually think I'll choose UnleashX. But one more thing, when It asks me to the new dashboard, which drive do I choose E:\ or C:\ does it matter? Also, no matter which dashboard I pick, I'm gonna be able to play homebrew, emulators, and backups right?Rellizate wrote:You don't need to back up your xbox to your PC.
