Battery Life Questions!

Post by jleemero »

Hey! I'm sure all of 4 people have heard of my portable... the XZ64.

Well, I'm wondering about everybody's battery life on their 64 portables.

I'm looking for about 4 - 6 hours of battery life...

I found some batteries 2.4v and 15,000mAh

How much life could I get out of those?

Recommendations?!??!?!

Well... on the 3.3v line.. the 64 takes up to 1.5 amp, and the 12 line, around 300mAh at max. This leaves a loot to be looked for. You can run down to 7.2 vots in the 12v line so this is ok.

Say the 64 is taking 1.6 amps, for 6 hours play you would need almost 10Ah. A little to much for a portable.

You will never get great life yout of a n64p.

You'll need at least a 7.2v battery, and I recommend a NiMH Battery pack, something around 4500mAh-6000mAh in capacity. That should get you a good 3-4 hours of play.

Check around http://batteryspace.com.

if you have a dcdc converter, the power consumed by the 3.3v line is different.

let

Vi be the battery voltage
Io be the current drawn by the 3.3v line
Vo be the voltage of the 3.3v line (its 3.3, duh. but in general...)
E is the efficiency of the dcdc converter and is a constant, more or less

then the current from the battery would be

Io( E(Vo / Vi))

the current of the 3.3v line multiplied by (the ratio of the two voltages multiplied by the efficiency of the converter)

so for a normal converter on a 7.2v battery it would be like 1.5A => .76A

I have a feeling that's a typo. They probably meant to say 1500mAh, not 15000. I don't even think it's possible to get that kind of capacity out of just two cells, that kind of energy density is far greater than what is available just about anywhere else on the market. Plus the fact that they're so cheap should be another indication. And if you zoom in on the picture, it looks like it says 1500mAh on it, but it's hard to tell.

Go ahead and buy them if you want, but don't be surprised if they're not 15Ah worth of capacity.

you would also have to use a step-up DC-DC converter which would reduce battery life

Yes, when I first saw it I thought it was a typo...

I hope it's not...

I'll find a way to confirm it before I choose...

EDIT: Yep, found it elsewhere, typo, only 1500... Dang...

I get 4-5 hours with 5000mah batteries. That's with a 6 LED mod and ti dc-dc convertor. So your battery life will be just a little less than however many amp hours (same as 1000mah) your batteries are. N64 portables like mine take an average of 1200ma to run.

4-5 hours out of 5kmAh!?!

Woo!

I'm going to go ahead and get the 12,000 mAh ones.

That should get me like... 8 or 9 hours?!

Maybe more, if I'm lucky...

We shall see!

Check for updates in my XZ64 post!
