hmm, reverse engineering the GBA2TV Adapter?

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

hmm, reverse engineering the GBA2TV Adapter?

Post by mog123 »

I had one of those, you had to open your gba, take the wiretape from the GBA2TV and put it into the tapesocket(without removing the screen's lcd tape). SO basically in 1 socket you had 2 tapes.
The gba2tv set had the red/yellow/white , which were supposed to be plugged in the TV. And i was thinking: could you reverse engineer it (by cutting off the jack male's and soldering up jack females)?

If it's a stupid idea, just say it.

Reverse engineer, means to take apart something, figure out how it was made, and understand it.

I'm going to guess you mean that you wanted to just reverse the interface. No, not feasible. There are Video in and TV tuners for GBAs that connect to the cartridge slot.

Indeed. I have a GBA Video Cart. Its not the greatest, even on the GBA SP. Not to mention you need to have the entire GBA in tact to use it. For a handheld screen its useable. For a portable console screen, it sucks. You might as well get a GBA Flash cart and run your system emulated (if possible).

I was trying to figure out how to reverse interface with one of them. The problem is trying to work with the IC that does the conversion. I was looking at my GBA2TV and noticed that it might have an optional VGA output on the board... seems very promising in my eyes.

You have the GBA2TV that lets you hook the GBA to a TV, or you have the GBA cart that lets you watch video (Like DVD and game Consoles) on the GBA?

I have the Video Input cart. I have dumped the ROM and figured out the internal encoder is discontinued and at End of Life. Not to mention all marking on the carts ROM have been sandpaperd away. I need to at LEAST know the pinouts of the ROM so I know how ti does its ADC stuff... There is a slim chance to none that I will ever replicate it. Without knowing the baseline FlashROM type is a blind hit or miss guess with the odds against my favor... Its like sucking on wet bathing suits to find out who peed in the pool... All you will realize is that there are way too many variables to come to a solid conclusion.
