I'm bowling with a league. Other than that I only onces and a while play something like basketball with friends or stuff like that. I really prefer to do just recreational workouts more than sports.

I mainly do iai-do (two styles of how to use a katana) and judo with some kendo and karate thrown in there. In a close second, i do basic body training, running, weight lifting, cardio mostly by myself or with some of my schools clubs. They love the gaijin working with them (keeping up and/or beating some of their players). I used to work at a gym back in America so I would work out every day, I have since (after coming to Japan) lost some muscle and a little strength but I still know what I am doing. Also just a note, never run 4kilomoeters(-ish) then do full squats at 110kilos. Freaking sucks and when you are done, you walk all funky.... like a homo kinda... or a cowboy.

I would like to clear up a few things about iai-do. Iai-do is for samurai; not only does it use a curved katana but samurai hate ninja anyway for being sneaky little basterds (purposly spelled wrong). Ninja use a straight katana (classic and practicle ninja do at least, more modern styles in America and overseas have blured this line).sam wrote:Intresting, a lot of you guys do, well ninja stuff. I used to a long time ago, i also forgot to put snowboarding, general weightlifting, and the occational game of squach.
Iai-do is for people in plain view, not sneaking around. Never is an attack to be aimed at someone who is either A not facing you or B does not know of your intent to harm. That is a pretty basic rule and such. In history, a man in a castle (a samurai in the service of a Daimo) struck a more cowardly and mocking vessel of the Daimo. This attack was viewed very harshly and the man was ordered to put his life to an end that night very soon after the incident.
So yeah. That and judo and karate are also non-ninja (if not anti-ninja) martial arts. Todays judo is more grapple and wrestling moves (NOT WWF or anything like that...) with less strikes and direct joint assults (they still exist in matches but many are illegal for the fact of severe injury may occur). Karate... well there is nothing sneaky or really stealthy about karate. You be loud, and strike with enough power to make your shout into a roar. Or something like that (my sensei told me that in Japanese, I am still not too fluent but its something like that).
Ninja use their own style of grapples, strikes, sword, dagger, and other weapons. When someone says they study ninjitsu (which I thought was illegal somewhere) they mean they study ninja styles. Which of course, since time has kinda taken out the need for being truely stealthy, many things have changed. I personally have not really gone into physical study of ninjitsu however I have read up on it and its role in Japanese history. So its all good.
Also, its true that ninja used hand seals to do some jitsu or ninpo. This was not really ninjitsu but rather a part of ninjitsu that is rooted in Esoteric Buddhism.
