How Stuff Works.com -VS- Actually Paying Attention in School

Post by benheck »

I think I've learned more off How Stuff Works than I ever did in school. (Sounds like a Simon and Garfunkel lyric)

So, which is better?

http://www.howstuffworks.com

or

SCKOOL?

I know i must sound like a nerd right now, but paying attention in school has made me into a smarter person, though many classes teach nothing useful some do.

I'm one of the few saps that actually pay attention, as that's what you are tested on. Actually, I never study or take notes. I just pay attention in class, do my homework, and that's all I need. I usually get A's, with a B or 2 thrown in here and there. Liking the teacher helps to. :)

and the teacher liking you would probably help too :P.............
Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!

yeah, that's what I meant. For example, I really did not like my English teacher. Nonetheless, I still acted like I did. My theory is that she would have a better attitude when looking at one of my papers, and give me a fairly good grade even if I do blow it off. Heck, she even nominated me for an award where each teacher chooses one student per term. Granted, most kids in the class goof off so I seem to be much better by contrast.

no multiple votes? ackk! :P I learn a lot in school, mostly because I am homeschooled, but I also learn LOTS at howstuffworks. Plus the howstuffworks book has cool mammoths, if you haven't read it, go get it at your local library.

Personally, I feel that if you don't feel like paying attention in a class, you're not taking the right one. I'm not a big fan of history or languages, so I'm not taking any of those classes this year (I was required to in the past for graduation requirements). Instead, I'm taking AP Calculus, AP Physics, AP Comp Sci, Biochemistry, and Architectural Drawing, things that interest me. Oh yeah, and there's AP English thrown in there too, but that sucks, it's my least favorite and the one I get the lowest grades in (I only got a 700 on the verbal section of my SAT :( (;)).

Sounds like your school has some nice classes! Mine doesn't even have a single ap course, and the most complex computers class is called "basic windows"

Yeah I know when your far removed from the larger cities you dont get anything good. My school offered AP classes but I never qualified for them, hell never even took the ACT/SAT test.

And for being interested in the class.... My senior year I kept falling asleep in my Molecular Bio. class and my English, but I still passed Bio with a C and English with I believe as low as B.

If you dont like the class or the instructed there is one option, and that is self teach yourself the course. When I got bored in a class, really bored I'd just read in advanced of the text book. You might as well try it, your going to be doing it when you go to college anywyas.

No, it isn't ( I wish though  ) I get up when my brother does ( he is public schooled. ) at 5:30, not because I have to, I just do. And the work isn't very easy either, actually it's rather hard. It does have good merits though, like being able to be on the computer as soon as your schoolwork is done, and having a full time teacher who actually cares how you do in stuff.
