Have Redesign, Need Input

Post by bicostp »

Ok I've got a new web design I'm pretty happy with, but there may be a few bugs left, and I have no way to test how well it works in all browsers. That's where you guys come in.

The new layout works fine in Firefox 1.5.0.8 and 2, but has some issues in IE (which I will cover later). However, it is untested in Safari, Opera, Konqueror, Netscape, and Mozilla Classic. I don't see any problems with Opera, since it's the only one that passes the Acid test completely, but the others should be tested if possible.

If you couys could please take a quick look, maybe leave some feedback, that would be great. <b>This is strictly voluntary</b>. (You don't have to if you don't want to.) Really I just need to know how it works with other browsers, but opinions on the layout would be nice.

Here's the link to the most current version:

Thanks to all who help! :D

Boring stuff you don't need to know begins here. You don't need to read this, but go ahead if you want to.

Statistics:
-----------
- CSS 2.0 compliant
- Renders properly in Firefox
- index page is only 10 kilobytes

Known issues:
----------------
- IE buggers it up. That's Microsoft's fault, not mine.
- Only a couple navigation buttons work. I'm going to use the index page as a template for content, so those files don't exist yet.
- There are a few pixels on each side of the header that aren't filled. I'm not sure why.
- The .css file is a huge mess. That doesn't affect the page at all, so I'm not going to make it all fancy.

Looks great. Since I'm such a perfectionist, I'll point out a few nitpicks I have:
- Title image looks fine, but doesn't fit the rest of the page. It would look better if it had a basic logo design rather than some Arial slapped on there :)
- The "quote of the day" under the title image seems kinda squished... give it some more vertical room and maybe right-align it.

Oh, and it needs more cowbell... :P

Eh, even in IE7, it looks great. :)

When can we expect the final?

Looks like a winner to me, it even works in Mozilla 1.3.1 on a Mac running OS 9.2.2

Thanks for the testing help, everyone!

I plan to have at least the navigation structure working in the next couple weeks. The content pages will still look the same, but you'll be able to get to them from the new layout. I'm not saying the content won't be ported until much later; the navigation is a higher priority.
