Is this converter reversible?

Post by JAY »

I received an S-video to component video cable that came with my graphics card, but I was wondering if it can be used to convert component to S-video instead. Or does it not work that way? Here's a picture:

I'd appreciate your help.

From the looks of it, that has S-Video male, and component female, so thats going to take component and convert it to S-Video, which is what I believe you wanted it to do.

I agree with omega

Since the input connector leads to be component and the output connector leads to be S-video...it makes sense

Why would it come with one of those? By searching on the site that image was on, the card you own is a XFX GeForce 7900 GT 256MB PCI-E XXX Edition? Or something made by GeForce, obviously.

We get this image after a quick search on Newegg:

That's a custom Output->HDTV cable. Not an S-Video->HDTV cable. ;)

In any case, I'll do a bit of research on RGB->Luma/Chroma and get back to you.

EDIT: Brain fart, I actually put together an RGB encoder for a fellow Benheck member. The kit was from Neo-Bitz, and you simply soldered some things up, and it takes in RGB signal, and outputs Composite and S-Video. Although originally designed for the Neo-Geo AES, it should work as a general solution. The site is at http://neobitz.com/ , and the DIY Encoder goes for pretty cheap at ~$30 USD. There are more expensive alternatives such as THIS, but I don't recommend it (very expensive...)

If I find more, I'll let you know.

Yes, that's ideally the same card. I don't have the converter with me now, so I didn't even think about what connection type it was. I know that the graphics card itself has a 7-pin slot, which then is also functional with the 4-pin s-video cables. I initially thought that the "s-video" end of the converter would be 4-pin, but now that you brought it up, it's most likely 7-pin, meaning that it wouldn't be able to plug into my TV anyway. I thought that this might have been a way to weasel myself out of using composite for the new systems, but I guess not.

I myself couldn't find any straight RGB->s-video converters online, but I'll check out the kit at Neo-bitz. Thanks.
