My NESp

[RIDMaster]

I've been lurking on this board for a few weeks now while I've been working on my NESp. It's nothing special - basically straight out of Ben's book.

I only had a couple of problems to overcome in this project:
- Had trouble getting battery power to work
- System kept shorting out during play
- Fried the controller IC (installed it upside down)
- Buttons didn't quite feel right
- Decals were sort of tough to get right - they took me a long time

Everything is working great now and I am thouroughly enjoying my portable NES. I think the only other thing I am going to do is swap out the 2N4401 transistor for a 2N2222 (as I've seen recommended here) and see how the video signal looks. As for my next project, I have a dreamcast sitting in my closet and I am reading up on building a vacuum form box...

Wow, that's a nice NESp. It' adds it's own custom "flare" to an original design. Keep up the good work!

Trust me, doing something streight outa ben's book is a feat in itself. He seems to make things harder than they should be, but your NESp is lookin' awsome!

I've been thinking about getting Ben's book too. Does it offer the same awesomeness & funniness of his website? (This will somewhat greatly effect my decision)

The volume icon looks similar to the one in Windows, but it's not the same one.

The book is well worth the money (it was $18 from amazon.com IIRC). The forums here are full of veteran portabilizers that have offered some valuable information that augment the book well.

Open up a WinXP Control Panel, it looks exactly the same! Just one difference, yours has the yellow in it...

the book is excellent it is how i got started with portables, i knew absolutely nothing of this stuff before i got the book, and it does have the same personality as his website, definitly would reccomend the buy

yes, but there's one thing a book of Ben's can never have: the Alternate Text attributes on all the photo's...
