I just got a Game Genie off of ebay so I can play my PAL copy of Terranigma on my NTSC SNES portable. However, I came across this:
Wikipedia wrote:The simplest way to play the Japanese and European cartridges in the North American system was to use a Game Genie cheat device with the small rectangular piece of plastic from its top removed. This not only circumvents the problem of different cartridge shapes but also removes any problem with lockout chips due to the internal design of the Game Genie.
What's that plastic piece they are talking about? Is it the part that says Game Genie on it? Pics and where to remove the stuff would help.
Thanks,
CTFan

It's the plastic flap that holds games in place on the Game Genie. You can remove it by unscrewing the GG and taking the top half off, then remove the flap and rescrew. There are no moving or loose parts other than the flap, so you have nothing to worry about.
probably not nintendo screws, wasnt the gamegenie some kinda third party thing? and the plastic tabs are probably like the tabs on the inside of a snes, you can probably just melt them or rip them off
Game Genie uses Phillips head screws. The piece you will remove does almost nothing but get in the way anyway.
Note the white blemishes near the cartridge connector on the right. There may or may not be tabs to break off there.
Thanks, dan! That really helps. Oh, and what's that switch on the Game Genie? On/Off? Could the PAL game be run with the Game Genie off so I don't get possible "errors" such as lost saves?

This is a really cool device to gain an advantage for a bunch of old but awesome snes games. Unfortunately Nintendo put a lockout chip in the last version of the Snes they released ( the smaller one with a push button reset switch )( It works on just about all of the older units with two large purple slider barswitches )
[web page] has a bunch of codes for just about any game you can think of, it also loads quick and has very little advertising.
Enjoy beating the **** out of all the games that used to be soo tough. There's even a code to beat all the Bosses in Chrono Trigger with one hit!!

Is this true? Can anyone say from experience? Because I want to use it on my SNES portable which, of course, has an SNES mini board. And that would seriously suck. Or, does anyone know how to remove the lockout chip made by the bastardized Nintendo?
I don't know what the guy in the quote is saying. For all intents and purposes the SNES mini should be functionally identical to the original.
My guess is this guy forgot to install a lockout chip in the flash cart, which you need to do anyway to get it to boot, regardless of which version SNES it is.

The guy in that quote was using a flash cart for SNES, but you're not, so you're fine. The on and off switch on the front is for turning codes on and off in game(as some codes and had negative effects at certain points). So having it on or off shouldn't effect it's ability to play PAL/JAP games on your US SNES.
The Game Genie still won't run PAL games on my NTSC system. This sucks. Any other ideas? I'm looking for the SNES Pro Action Replay 2 or 3, but they're hard to find. I'm SOOO pissed right now.
