Ipod, GameBoy at Same Time and Hearing Both With HeadPhones?

Post by The Zydeco King »

Is it posible to hear both an MP3 player and a portable game system at the same time through one set of head phones? Is there any product that can do this and if not would it be possible to make such a product/adaptor.

Just a splitter would work.

Here's how to make your own. You'll need a second headphone male end.

Wire colors vary, but it's usually red-white-black. Red and white may be either left or right channels, you'll have to expririment to be sure. Ground may also be two wires (- left, -right). I don't know why they do that, but it's best not to cross them if they weren't contacting in the first place. Ground may also not be covered at all.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I knew it would be easy to make a simple adaptor via a simple Y splitter. I guess I should have asked the question of ,...Would there be any problems of one device sending - + power to the other device and would that cause any problems?

Nope, only a signal is sent out, so no power will be transfered to ruin the items.

Here you are:

Code: Select all

        INPUT 1 -------\/\/\/\---+
                ---+ R1 10K +------------ OUTPUT
                   | | +----
        INPUT 2 -------\/\/\/\---+ |
                ---+ R2 10K |
                   | (shields) |
                   +---------------------+
Just build two of these, one for left and right audio each.

Note: Shamelessly stolen from Tkk.Fi to save us all the trouble of clicking the link and scrolling down. Also on that page is an advanced version of this circuit with volume controls! Oooooo Ahhhhhh.
