Unless you stare at the laser for a real long time, you can't get hurt.

No, the lazers (actually spelled "laser" by the way) are harmless (well almost)...

If you stare at it too long, your children may be born with extra legs and arms, and an odd craving for old disco music. :o

A laser is nothing more then a highly focused beam of light. Yes if you stare into it it will cause retnal damage. No there is no radiation to speak of, unless you consider waves of light radiation.

Laser radiation
Radiation as in the beam radiates out from the laser.
Yes, at high levels it's dangerous.

My question is, is that the PSONE disc drive radiation is as lethal as people say it is :?

The PSOne disk laser is so dangerous that they had to put this spinning plastic disk in front of it in order to protect the masses.

It's a level 1 laser, for crying out loud, it's the same one you have in anyother cd player and CD-Rom (not burners).

The laser in CD players or consoles using CDs is not particularly dangerous unless you stare into it for an extended period of time. The only 'radiation' present is a thin beam of light. You'd have to line your eye up with that beam of light, and stare into the laser for quite a while before you begin to suffer for it. At worst, you would damage your retina, and that could take hours of staring.

Level 1 laser :P How about a level 3 laser? Or even better, a level 4 laser! ... Oh God, I miss Earth and Beyond!!!
