Really? I played Shiny Gold on my EZ Flash this summer. I have both Fire Red and Leaf Green, so it's perfectly legal, but I didn't notice any restrictions on the rom.. Actually, I think my friend uploaded the rom to rapidshare and gave me a link... Who knows what he did to make it work.palmertech wrote:Pointless anyways. All these Shiny Gold carts are using an ANCIENT beta that ends at the Olivine lighthouse, not even half through the game. Zel, the author of the hack, added some anti-piracy measures after that, so they cannot use his new stuff easily.
Ripping off his hard work to make money is just wrong.

Re: Isn't selling this illegal?
No, no. It works fine on flashcarts.
The "anti-piracy" measures were to make it harder to make an actual cart out of it to sell. So if you play it on a flashcart yourself using the latest beta, you are fine. All these fake ebay carts use the old, crippled version without anti-piracy measures, though.

Excellent

How would somebody make an actual cart from a rom? EZ Flash 3in1 (which is what I have) is the closest I can think of.

They get a ROM chip and a device that programs it.

Sounds a lot like the EZ Flash 3in1, except the only device you need to program it is a DS. Although the rom chips are probably cheaper than $20 (I think that's what the EZ Flash costs), which is how they make money.
