You only see it if you are on a lot.
The fact we have little spam is not a product of any system, just that fact that our mods are on top of it!
I think we should upgrade some mods to admins, and get more mods, by election. We have not been gaining many/any, and we have lost a few.

CFfan disappeared months ago.
And without paying me back for my half of a deal, too!
He PM'd me saying he was shipping, my stuff the next day, filled me in on what had delayed him for 5 months, and apologized. I said it was okay, just ship it ASAP.
He is now back to ignoring my PMs, and I never got anything.

Being the striving citizens of society that we are, the moderators have a right to aim for perfection.
I just installed a very weak blocker for now, and will find something better in a few minutes. For now, what I have blocks people from using the GMT -12 timezone when registering, which supposedly most bots use when registering. The timezone is for the Baker Islands, which I'm sure most people aren't in, so it shouldn't effect anybody else.
Again, I'll try to find and install something better in a bit...

I'll be honest with you - I would have never guessed that.

Honestly, I don't think that's a good idea; far too much potential for abuse. Let's say some moderator decides he doesn't like one member for whatever reason... that member could be banned simply because the mod doesn't like him. See what I'm getting at?
Maybe I just don't trust people enough, but if I were an admin, I wouldn't feel comfortable with giving my mods that ability, just in case.
I'm glad we at least have a temporary block in place, though.

The mods are here, the reputation of them is great, and if I was Ben, I would give them the powah.
lol i just noticed on the bottom of this forum page it lists all members online, and among them are google adsense(bot), yahoo(bot), and google(bot)
i think if the mods put in a strict filter, they shouldn't let people sign up if the word bot or other suspicious words are in their email address or in their username
it works for my spam filter, and i have absolutely NO spam in my mailbox
