6 AA batteries won't give you much for battery life. I'd go with D cells.
Or for that matter, why not a Power Wheels car battery or a couple of lantern batteries? Because if you aren't building a handheld, then I recommend you get a battery that will give you longer life instead of one that takes up less space.

that might be true, but i think Ni-MH could get me enough juice to run this. can someone get me power specs? i need to know how many mA the 12v and 3.3v requires. i went to the shack website and found this

im not using this, im actually usoing 2 seperate circuits for each line

thanks for the quick response peacefrog, but isnt 4.5v a little different from 3v
can a N64 take that kind of voltage? and what kind of circut are you using to knock down the 12v to 3v? i really need radio shack parts, because i haven't got the time or the money to put up with digikey's crap.
