Sorry to dig up this thread, but Creedance Clearwater is a must have :D

It's plain rock, and is pretty laid back.

Death Cab for Cutie
The Postal Service
The Shins
The Decemberists

All of the above are sort of chill-out

I can second Enter Shikari, I've seen them live twice, they were absolutely mental.

Extreme_Jesus missed Capdown, The King Blues and Sonic Boom Six off his ska list :P

And I'd wholly recommend Drop Dead, Gorgeous and Rage Against the Machine for rock/loud stuff.

Another King Blues fan :D :D :D :D

If you want chilled music I have to agree with Discovery by Daft Punk, especially the tracks Veridis Quo, Digital Love and Something About Us.

I always listen to reggae to chill out myself. Go for :

Skindred's acoustic stuff (their Metal Reggae isn't as relaxing but still good?
Bedouin Soundclash
And the album "Is it rollin' Bob?" hard to find reggae Bob Dylan tribute album

Check my old post in Samus' thread for more advice. Whatever happened to that?

If you want to find out new bands and such, check out http://www.pandora.com/

They have a whole bunch of radio stations with different genres and such to listen to for free. It's really neat

You can actually make your own station, vote songs up or down (up and more like it will play, down and you'll never hear the song again), and skip songs. Plus the music is 128kbps, so it sounds pretty good. I have a station on mine "trained" pretty good, I barely ever hear a song I don't like.

This has nothing to do with me bringing them up that one time does it?

Ugh. To add to the list:

CCR
The Eagles
Van Morrison (moondance album)
Jimmy Eat World
Sanctus Real
Brand New
Washington Social Club (no idea where you would get their stuff. I got it in washingon [dc] and thats the only place they sell their stuff, i think)
BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN
Linkin Park(always reliable)
Taking Back Sunday
