ps2 portable, battery frying!

Yea I build my ps2p this summer and havnt gotten a battery yet so i figured id try and grab some tomorrow from radio shack(the RC packs). What would be better to get? 2x(9.6V)=3200mAh or 2x(7.2V)=4000mAh.

BTW, it has to run the pstwo slimline (8.5V factory label) and the intec psone screen which i believe is somthing like 8V.
Mostly I do NOT want to fry anything... Any ideas? Does radio shack hand returns very well? because i thought of getting a 7.2V and just seeing how it runs wtih it and if not taking it back... Anyhow helps is appreciated,

and no I cannot find any DC-DC converters that'll give me 8.5V or 8.4V....

Well, I remember (from my RC days *flashbacks*) there is an 8.4v battery. It looks like a 7.2v but with an extra cell in the middle of the pack. Check a local hobby shop for them. I don't think Radio Shack would have it (only 7.2, and 9.6v. They would most likely fry your screen).

Hm i was thinkin of gettin two 9.6V packs which are either 8x1.2V of 4x2.4V. If they are standard size 1.2V's ill be in luck and can just remove one of them from each pack

. Only problem is im still trying to find a charger for 8.4V

I'm not sure, but I think my old charger can charge any size battery. As long as you discharge it, and then charge it. I never thought about the voltage when using a charger. Anyway I have one of those RC car chargers (15min charger), and I think it should be able to do diffrent voltages.

Just geta DuraTrax 7-cell hump pack from Tower Hobbies. You'll need a peak charger (The MRC Superbrain 959 works great for me. You'll need to desolder a heatsensing component inside though).

a DVD player battery would be best, they're usually around 8.4v-9v and very high capacity

how r u suppose to wire the battery?
