Actually I did some checking, and it turns out that the LCD does not run off the 7808. The LCD runs straight off the 20V wall power supply. The only thing the 7808 is used for is the audio amp, and (I think, double check this) adjust power.
So you can actually just input 7.2V (or possibly even as low as 6V) straight into the power plug and it will turn on (without bypassing the 7808). At least that's how mine is. You might want to double check your screen in case it is different.
Oh yes, don't forget, center of the plug is positive, and outside of the plug is negative.
EDIT: Got caught up in what I was doing that I forgot to tell you what it says on the power supply. It says: 12V (my meter says 20V though! Go figure...) at 500 ma.

So is it possible to just cut off the ribbon between the boards, and just connect 7.2v? I think the red one is power, and the next one is ground. Would this work?G-force wrote:Actually I did some checking, and it turns out that the LCD does not run off the 7808. The LCD runs straight off the 20V wall power supply. Yes but the screen will look like something made in a factory from china (junk) without the adjust board. I had the audio amp and adjust board running off the 7808 and that was hooked up to a 7.2V battery, and guess what. It worked fine.
Bottom line: You can run a Hip gear off 7.2V (6AA's) without even opening the case. Just get a male plug from radio shack that matches the power plug on the screen and connect with that.

after reading that it doesnt need the full 12v I tried the following spec adaptor:
9V 300mA 2.7VA
But this gave power to the screen but made buzzing noise at the same time.
I have basically wired it straight into the points where you would connect the original power supply not by-passed anything, could this just be the sound not getting enough power? Im not too bothered about sound as its just to be built into an xbox case.

All hooked up to the xbox getting a picture but its looping, will do a search on the forums now for looping hip gear screens.
*** EDIT - Ive already had this answered before, just didnt manage to go to the thread after it was replied too, its either the NTSC to PAL conversion or too high a voltage.
Probably the first as Im in the UK and its a USA or Canadian screen, will have to change hard drives before I can change the setup on the xbox. ***
