Dc-dc converter. The 78xx regulators burn the extra voltage off as heat.

So you know the 78xx regulators output voltage are the last two digits.

oh yeahh duuuh read it wrong

soo if the 7805 just takes the 12v down to 5 where does the 7v worth of energy go is it just turned to thermal energy

Holy crap!

The 7805 works with any voltage input of 7-36 volts, it than outputs 5vots.

Done

I've been hanging around for awhile now back on the old forum aswell.

I finally registered.

Anywho what i am getting at is does the N64 really need 12v isn't it just wasted by the 7805 in the form of heat?

It's just turned into heat, where as a dc-dc converter reuses most of it.
