hooking up a psone screen to a dreamcast...

Post by dkap01 »

Has anyone been able to hook up a psone screen to a dreamcast? I've been trying for the last 2 days and no go. I 've got the sound to work but no video. I want to use RGB. If anyone knows how, please let me know...

Thanks
Dave

I dont know what you mean by slot 1 and slot 2, but here's the pinout for the AV... And if slot 1 is the AV it has 16 pins.

Pin Description Dreamcast
1 Ground
2 Right Audio
3 Left Audio
4 +12v
5 +5v
6 31 kHz RGB
7 15 kHz RGB
8 Vertical Sync
(for VGA)
Pin Description
9 Horizontal Sync
(for VGA)
10 Composite Sync
11 S-video
12 S-video
13 Composite Video
14 Blue Out
15 Green Out
16 Red Out

pinout for psone screen
1 Gmd Ground
2 Rt Right Audio
3 Gnd Ground
4 Lt Left Audio
5 Y S-Video Y
6 Sync NTSC Video/
Composite Sync*
7 C S-Video C
8 V-Gnd Video Ground
9 B Blue
10 +5v +5 Volt
11 R Red
12 G Green

That's the wrong picture if you check near the end of the psone pinouts thread there's a different one. Image
Yeah I made that picture and it has no mistakes .
For the sync line you may need a capacitor if the picture is scrambled.

What I did was to get a cable like this one (originally meant for a sony camcorder), hook it and the Dreamcast's cord to a coupler similar to this one (got mine at radio shack), plugged one end into the Dreamcast, hooked the other end into the a/v connector (near the headphone socket) on the screen, and it worked, no cutting or soldering or anything required... I may shorten it omeday to avoid needing the coupler or needing to mess with all the excess cord, though...
