Mass Producable N64P...Coming soon!

Post by G-force »

(I have yet to decide on a real name. I'm thinking Game Man 64)

So some people want to know the satus of my next N64P so I'll put it here.

Case = Hardcover VHS case.

Screen= 2.3" flip up Hip Gear screen.

Controlls= Normal C, B, A N64 buttons (relocated) adn normal n64 analog stick. No L button, No D-pad. L and Z will be L and R buttons cut from a SNES controller.

Other info= No memory card, unless specifially ordered, and it would have to be built in. No expansion pack, just a jumper pack. no player ports, the only controller will be the built in one.

Estimated price so far= $120 (will probably change.)

Paint job= Not sure yet. Maybe a metallic blue.

Power = 8 rechargeable AA's. 5 will power the 12V line on the N64 and the screen. 3 will power the 3.3V line. Hopefully this will work.

I will be getting some pics up later assuming my friend can lend me his camera.

ahh no d-pad!!!!!(but kirby 64 neeeeeeeeeeeds it!!). Oh well, i guess to make it mass producable you should keep only the bare essentials.
SNESp - 100%
Protable X - 15% - I need money :(

HA HA! Beat ya :P Well after I make the first one, I may make an order form that will have prices for the extra add-ons. That way people can customize it and only pay for what they want.

For example (prices to be determined later):
D-pad and L button add-on
AV out add-on
Built in memory pack add-on
Custom paint job
Controller ports (includes external P1 switch)

The cart slot will not be relocated since it takes too much time and it fits wonderfully in the design.

question, will you do price cuts if people who order send in the parts? as that saves time(and cash depending).

I have a good design for you, if you want it. The design I'm doing for my N64p is a hand-built case (though this could be swapped out for what Ben uses in the Phoenix), it would include a relocated cart slot (subject to change if mass-produced), expansion pak slot (so you could have either), DC-DC convertor and AAs for power and a 5" PSone screen. All controls would be included, design is in my mind but not ready to be posted.

Maybe after I have made a few and parts are hard to get a hold of. My design uses stuff I can find around my area, but if the stores run out of waht i need that would be a good option.

@usb, I would love to see your design :) . I'm pretty happy with the one I have, but if somebody ends up wanting one with a 5" screen I do need a different design. btw, I am looking forward to your N64P, it sounds quite promising.

Well, the design for mine is a simple landscape one, mainly because the N64 board is about the same height as the screen board. The nice thing I found out about the expansion pak is that there are only 6 wires and a ground that have to connect it to the board, the other 12 are also ground wires. The bad part is the wires must be very short since we're dealing with RAM. It still doesn't hinder progress much though, just flipping it down shaves a whole inch off of the thickness. Also, to prevent the board from overheating, it will have to include a small computer fan, one that I have several of (which are all missing). Problem with that is I got about 10 for free, but they retail for about $12 apiece.

Oh, and about the design, I will probably have time to do it next weekend, I have barely any time now that school's back.
