Controller question for SNESp Hand-Built

Post by Phone »

I just got a parcel from the almost-God himself, Ben Heckendorn, today. This means that I can't procrastinate any longer, and it's time to get crackin' on my SNESp.

The book calls for the 4021 IC from two NES controllers. I live in NC, and everything is runned by Gamestop and the oldest stuff they have is Super Mario 64. However, there is a pawn shop nearby. I went there and they didn't have the Nintendo NES controllers; however, they did have these cheap Hong Kong imitations.

Will these cheap 2 dollar imitations have the 4021 IC?

They most likely have glop-tops instead of a chip you can desolder. So try looking around more. I rember in the book section somebody found a link to the IC somewhere on the internet, and it was only a buck or two.... Try searching.

I got them today (with another 24 tact switches). I got 4, just in case. Upon further inspection, the ICs are made by Texas Instruments.

All we need is a SNES-83+.

That would be sweet...a graphing SNES. It'd be my best friend, I wouldn't go anywhere without it.

Too bad they don't make calculators powerful enough to emulate the SNES, and it's too bad the SNES is bigger than a calculator…

Not too big to fit in this calculator

Wouldn't be quite portable though...
