RGB modding a video capture card

Post by peppers »

hello im back for a a short wile to ask a question

I need to capture an RGB signel (from a VGA source if your wondering) but dont want to spend a great deal of money and as most of you know any devise that displays a non digital video signel must first convert it to RGB for it to work

so here is what I need the RGB pinout of an paticular inexpencive one

or an inexpencive one that already can take a RGB input or a VGA input (or outher forums of RGB would be fine also I dont much care bout the connector it uses or what outher unnessasery pins it might have)

I would also like general information on how to find the RGB pinout on the circuit board's of such devises

I know a few of you know about the last thing sence you do it with LCD tv's sometimes

edit:ow and btw I know it may require a paticular horizontal scan rate it should not be a problem sence the sorce video can be set to whatever will be nessasery

stay on topic plus

Do you mean TV-Out... then you could just mod a S-Video to Composite cable to S-Video to RGB

S-video and composit are the same thing the picture quatity is better with s video because it uses a seperate wire for the in it simplest terns the black and white image and the color data

RGB is the sorce of almost all color video signels and any display devise must convert outher compressed video formats back to RGB in order to use them so there is always some point to input RGB signel's (not always accessable) it stands for Red Green Blue things such as computer displays use it because there is no need to store the picture data or send it long distances so a compression is not nessasery and no picture quality is lost, in a standard CRT based TV the RGB signels are used to controll electron beams used to make 3 phosphors arranged as dots or stripes emit red green and blue light when they are bombarded by the beams witch produces the picture, all colors are some combination of red green and blue

I forget sometimes that computers dont have to follow the rules outher non digital devises do

it would seem that the paticualr broadcast decoder chip in the one I perchased converts the compressed formats directley to a digital format or perhaps it converts it to RGB then to to the digital format it uses inside the chip I dont realy know they wont say in its data sheet but ether way I cant use it for that purpose though I knew that was a possibility and im still happy with my perchas just not as happy
