Are you trying to blow up some batteries there? Don't hook up the LEDs with that diagram!
Also, you will have to get some parts for running the LEDs (most take 3.6v), mainly a step-up regulator. They don't take much power, so it's no big deal.
This is the diagram for the ADP3000AN-5 regulator you need:

You will not be able to get them from digikey if you only want one, they only sell in minimum 50 quantity, and that is over $150.
Also, feel free to replace the 20 ohm resistor with 2 10 ohm ones.

the GBA cant be backlit. The way the LCD works, it needs to be frontlit. And there is allready a product on the market thats quite simple to install, i have one, and its not half bad. THe cost of this thing plus a GBA, you might as well get an SP.

Really? Does it have some sort of mirror built in or what? Also, the Afterburner works well, but it is out of production now. I'd just as soon buy some good white LEDs and put them at the sides, it'd be just as good as an actual Afterburner.
Also, RadioShack is too stupid to carry good regulators, you NEED to get it from an online shop or an electronics supplier.

The screen has a reflective sticker that is needed in order for the screen to work.

The SP has a Front-Light. Its just like the Afterburner kit for the GBA, but its a higher quality. Dont take that the wrong way, a properly installed Afterburner is really good looking. On a scale from 1-10, 1 being i wouldnt waste the fuel to burn it, 5 being you could live without it but its nice to have, and 10 being i refuse to die until i get it, I would give it an 8.5.
