I was just curious. You either sounded like you knew what you were talking about from age and experience (which appears to be the case) or that you were pulling a bunch of stuff out of your ass because you're too young to remember systems before the current generation.EpsilonMirror wrote:20. I really do believe that games pretty much suck now. I have all 3 of the current gen consoles, and I rarely play any of them. The last system to really grab me was DC and well its been a long time since games have been made for that. Even then I mostly used it for emulation. Hell my psp only ever gets used for emulation. Other than Lumines all I run are tg16 and GBC emus.
You've got a point that game quality has been headed steadily downhill, especially in this last generation. I do love my GameCube though.
Its the same sort of thing Nintendo fanboys were talking about when the 'Cube came out. Yea, it can't play back DVD movies and the disks are non-standard, but who cares, a gaming system should be about the games, not the multimedia. Coming from that standpoint, the Cube is the only current gen system that has consistently turned out games that I got excited about. Super Mario Sunshine, Wind Waker, Super Smash Bros, Metroid Prime, Eternal Darkness, etc.
The XBox had only Fable and Jet Set Radio Future that interested me. The PS2 had nothing.
2 "pong" systems, Atari 2600, Odyssey2, Intellivision III, Top Loading NES, GameBoy Pocket, Sega Genesis 3, Sega Nomad, Game.com, N64, Playstation, Dreamcast, GameCube, XBox

I agree, the GCN had great games like Prime, SMS, SSBM, etc, the Xbox had "advanced graphics" which do NOTHING for the quality of the gameplay (plus, the graphics were only good in like 3 games) and the PS2 had…nothing. I can't stand GTA, but that is only because I was raised with Christian values. Anything else, the graphics were the only good thing, I never get tired of drooling over my friend's copy of FFX-2…jaytee wrote:I was just curious. Something neat I found out about Nintendo is that they design their games with the gameplay first and don't even apply the graphics until a beta or the full version is all done.
Whenever I played the NES or SNES (which wasn't much, only about 10 minutes of my life), I was challenged. Even the N64 had the challenge needed for games, SM64 is WAY harder than SMS or even SM64DS. Even though my GameCube is the only one set up right now, my NES is sitting right next to it and gets used almost as much. Heck, that thing takes no time to set up, it's 2 cables and a controller (and possibly a switch of the game).
@Everyone who dissed SA2:B: You suck. That was one of the best games ever (except for the treasure hunting). Sonic Heroes was pure crap, it took me forever to learn it and when I had, it STILL took me over 50 hours of dying to beat it. I also hated the lack of the Chao garden, which was the main replay factor of SA2:B.

Funny thing is my GC is the system I play the least. I play my PS2 the most. Mainly because of the Ratchet and Clank series and the nippon ichi strat rpgs like Disgaea and La Pucelle. Klonoa 2 was another ps2 fav. Aplitude and Frequency owned also.
My xbox gets a good deal of attention, but mostly because of Live and the Bioware and Bethesda games. I happen to really like american rpgs and my vidcard used to suck until a month ago( i upgraded frm an original 32mb radeon to a 6600gt). Plus Xbox had JSRF DOA and Ninja Gaiden. Crimson Skies was major fun also.
All I really played on GC was Skies of Arcadia(the only game I bought THREE times to beat) heh yeah I loved that game enought to buy it twice for dc (disc 1 was messed up the first time, disc 2 the second time) then I had to pirate it( I didnt feel bad considering i had already spent 80 bux on the game) then when my dc died I had to buy it for GC, though I bet you guys could have guessed I loved that game cause of my name. Oh and um Beyond Good and Evil. Metroid Prime didnt really do it for me. metroid never did; the back tracking always got to me. I never played eternal darkness and smash bros never interested me.
To be honest I like my xbox and ps2 way better than my gc. Mainly cause all the games that I really wanted on gc were on all the platforms and unlesss it was a sega game Id always buy for xbox. I'm not saying that GC sucked, I'm just saying that ps2 and xbox suited my tastes in games better.

Or dare I say... [infomercial announcer voice]Revolutionize it![/informercial announcer voice]it is in a spiral swist to its death except Perhaps the rev will revive it
But seriously, the PS2 is the console everyone loves to hate on. Personally, I prefer the PS2 to the XBOX. The XBOX is fun with LIVE for a while (if a lot of people are over), but other than that its pretty dull. The PS2 has a lot of great games for just about every genre. I'll admit I do envy some of the GC exclusives, but I can live with the PS2 selection. I also don't understand why so many people complain about the controller. The analog sticks positioned the way they are is unique, its been that way since the first analog controller by sony, changing it would be pretty retarded now. It would be like Nintendo putting a circle-type d-pad instead of a cross on a controller. After using a dual shock for so many years the XBOX and GC (don't forget the DC Sega started the whole upper left analog thing) controllers feel uncomfortable.

um actually that design was started with the saturn analog controler. the dc controller was an evolution of that

Little known fact, Mario64 was debuged with that controller. Nintendo couldnt decide on a controller design but those saturn controllers had been finalised back in 95 and had all the features they needed to test out stuff.
