People tend to forget that the saturn analog pad came out a while before the n64 controller. hell, mario 64 was even debuged with one since nintendo couldnt decide on a controller design for the longest. Or that there were two analog psx controllers way before the dual shock. Analog joysticks have been around for just about as long as digital ones.
Loss of dpad functionality? until sony fanboys actually try other controllers instead of bashing anything thats not dual shock, and sony does the right thing and swaps the dpad and left stick positions i doubt that will happen. plus analog sticks suck for fighting games anyway.
Whats with the bit stuff being brought up? i figured most of us were old enough to see past the marketing gimmick by now(though i wont be surprised if younger gamers start calling ps3 and 360 256 bit consoles)
Fall of a nukem? 3drealms killed duke a long time ago. Fall of another game producer? I assume youre talking about nintendo. They've been headed down for a while. Its a bit sad but well at least they still have a firm grip on the handheld market despite the introduction of psp.
Sonic in 3d? meh. Don't get me wrong ive played both adventure games and heroes but sonic just doesnt work in 3d. it just turns into a meh platformer. This new shadow game looks like a bad version of ratchet and clank. Sega, with a few exceptions, have been putting out bad game after bad game lately. Then again thats every company nowadays; games just suck now. Thats why i dont mind the whole convergence device idea, at least then my systems will do something other than sit there like they do most of the time.
Sorry Jaytee, i just couldnt stand to look at my post that way anymore.

20. Why do you ask?
I really do believe that games pretty much suck now. I have all 3 of the current gen consoles, and I rarely play any of them. The last system to really grab me was DC and well its been a long time since games have been made for that. Even then I mostly used it for emulation. Hell my psp only ever gets used for emulation. Other than Lumines all I run are tg16 and GBC emus.

Eps, you are a Sonic purist. The Adventure games didn't live up to what was expected, but they were still decent. Adventure 2 was a downfall, but Adventure 1 was great. The Sonic games haven't become super crappy until the introduction of Cream- Advance 1 was half decent.
Heroes was not a bad game. It was worse that Adventure, but I liked it better than Adventure 2. Of cousre it had the crappy camera, but it's to be expected.

return as in sucked a lot and got vary anoyingCyberblade wrote:The return of Sonic the Hedgehog, finally realized in full 3d.
still way to much money for my tastes.. i think that nintendo lost when they introduced the first GBa... come on from crap ass color too... a little better color with no backlit only additional buttons where the R/L and no wireless or online play till the ds was alredy released, and still we have to wait for the DS to go online... next time they make a game boy (a new one not the GBM, I will not even look at any post about why we sould have 5 Gameboy advances) when they release the GBe it better have a few things going for it.Lucretius wrote:We saw the birth of three more Nin portables, and the promise of another....The morons at Nintendo...the GBM WILL FAIL!!!
We watched as Nintendo finally got some REAL competition in the portables venue...
1. suport for DS games
2. since i hate Disks, an SD slot or some usb storage built in.
3. online and multiplayer crap out of the box.
4. a better OS type thing ( i hate having to restart my DS from picto chat, and also ive never found another picto chat user even though i see people with DS's every where.)
5. I dont see the need to have a joy stick on a hanheld.. but if they do decied to do it make it a real one not like the PSPs "thing"
6. more colors than silver, slimmer style and more comfortable feel.
so.. like a vary apped up DS please.. (with GAMES!!! for myomotos sake make some freaking GAMES!!!)

I didnt much like the advance games, The artwork just threw me off. They were pretty fun when I managed to look past that but that was pretty hard for me to do. As for Heroes, meh I hated that more than Adventure 2. I actually was able to beat the adventure games, but Heroes I played for like 30 minutes and had to turn it off because it was so bad. That is something really rare for me. I actually kinda liked the Adventure games, but well they werent Sonic games. Part 1 was definitely better than 2. The thing is that they cant compare to the 3D platformers out now. Back when they were competing agaisnt like crash and spyro and stuff they were cool, but compared to Jak and Ratchet and Clank and a few othet platformers i cant really think of right now, they just dont stand up. That may be why I could'nt stand heroes. I played it after I found 3d platformers that dont suck.Conn wrote:Eps, you are a Sonic purist. Somehow I doubt that the next gb will support ds games. Nintendo has stated that the DS and GB lines will be seperate. Plus I dont see how they would implement packwords compatability unless it was the same formfactor as the DS, unless they find a way to make touch features work without a touch screen.cennar wrote: still way to much money for my tastes.. i think that nintendo lost when they introduced the first GBa... come on from crap ass color too... a little better color with no backlit only additional buttons where the R/L and no wireless or online play till the ds was alredy released, and still we have to wait for the DS to go online... next time they make a game boy (a new one not the GBM, I will not even look at any post about why we sould have 5 Gameboy advances) when they release the GBe it better have a few things going for it.

Are you kidding about the games being on SD? This is Nintendo were talking about. Theyre so obsessed with piracy, that they would never use a non proprietary media.
Heh yeah that "thing" on the psp sucks, but I think it sucks more because of the positioning than the actual design of it. Tbh I think sony actually came up with the only practical idea for an analog stick on a portable. I cant see normal thumbstick working.

also I see it vary likly that nintendo will impliment touch screen junk on more crap in the future.
the "thing" is not the best solution. they could use a real stick, like the interact gopad. a flat stick. imagine the round part of the joy stick, the part that makes up the base of the joystick. just that part but with a flat bit for your thumb.
and the thing about the SD card slot i mean for media, like (not game save memorie, or game data) but updates, movies, MP3 and other junk.

A stick like that seems like it would make the portable a bit too thick. Something like that would work for a homebrew portable fine, but for a commercially produced product, thickness can kill it. I mean what is the first aspect of an electronic product that gets bashed? Its size. I personally hope dpads stay the main input on handhelds for a while, until someone thinks of something really practical from a size and functionality standpoint.

What about a sliding disc such as the one on the NES MAX controller?

But I still favor the good ol' d-pad.

Is it actually analog or just 4 tact switches? I'd put my money on the latter.
