coldheat soldering irons work fine but don't hold the heat after you turn them off. AAs are good if you want it ti be small and lite. Ds are good if you want really long battery life. you can't use gameboy screens unless you get a TV tuner or AV thing for it. http://www.doomportables.tk/ has lots of info you need

You cant use the GBA screen. And the cold heat soldering iron has mixed reviews, while I'm too cheap to divulge into those crappy things, some people say it works great for its size and mobility, while others say it doesnt work at all.

You can get the psone console/screen combo from gamestop for 50. 5" screen here
Or you can get the $45 dollar 2.5" screen, which was just raised from $20 to $45 two days ago. Thats at amazon, here

You need a GBA AV adapter cartridge thing to use the GBA as a screen. www.lik-sang.com used to have them, haven't checked lately but last time I did they were out.

coldheat soldering irons send power through the tip. I wouldn't recommend them for PCB work. You may find yourself damaging something.

aside from that, they're also hard to use. Most soldering irons from the $1 store work better--actually I've had pretty good luck with them in a pinch...
