Following the book.

Post by Tokeydog »

Just thought I would mention my current progress from a complete newbie to this whole thing.

I have finished (without testing) the LCD screen mod. This was a lot easier than I thought and I am glad I took my time to do the job right. I have also taken apart the PS1 and removed the correct items from the main board. I don't have a battery yet, so I am now in the stage to start building the case for the PS1p.

I do have a question. I should be ok with pluging in my LCD screen to the DC adapter right?

I will do so tonight. Thanks. If it works I'm drinking a shot of whiskey in celebration of my minor victory!

Children, replace the word "whiskey" with "milk", "soda", "juice" or "water".

Well no "juice" last night. Seems I have something wrong.

I can tell that the resistor is getting power because the thing got damn hot. Just no lights. I did set it down and it seemed to flicker for a second, but still really nothing.

I'll go back tonight and check on the wiring of the positive leads to the resistor and the negative leads to the ground. I'm sure it has something to with here. Probably shouldn't have the leads touch the metal frame, too.

EDIT: I think I know what the issue is. I was using the thinner ribbon cable wire. I just grabbed the first ribbon cable I found and went on mey way. I'll have to replace all of that tonight.

Sounds like a grounding issue with the LEDs. Make sure that the Leads on the LED's aren't touching the metal casing or anything like that, or eachother. You should see "the light" after you get that taken care of.

Actually there were two issues. One was the wires. I was using the thinner ribbon cable and early in the book Ben does state that those don't hold the charge. The other issue is that one of my LEDs does not work. Luckily I bought six so I just replaced it.

Just have to reassemble the LCD screen and then I can drink my whiskey.
