I'm wondering if anyone has actually ripped apart N64(or even S/NES) carts and made their own casing, so ya won't be restricted by the shape of the cart for your portable console?
It would be nicer but in the end impractical in the end. The amount of money needed to produce semi professional looking carts would be too high for the limited benefits of the smaller size.
for NES it might be nice to rip them out of the case and keep them naked. They varied in size but the biggest were still about half the size of an nes cart. (and naturally thinner)
then just give your portable plexyglass door so you don't damage them.

you could also build a shallow mold and use that clear, 2-part hobby resin to 'pour' yourself a slimmer game. But it does seem like a lot of work for something that's already too much work to begin with.
it would be smaller, but the only problem is you would only be able to play your own collection. i highly doubt your friend would appreciate you ripping apart his carts... but then again, i dont know your friends.
heh... the advantage being that you could carry more games inside your pocket, or bag, whichever you prefer
warbaby - heh, interesting point, but once they see how smaller and "cuter" the machine and carts look, maybe they'll ask you to make them one... with a few extra bucks for labour, you know
