For over a year my SNES portable has run on 7.2 V batteries with the stock regulator.

I use a pair of 7.2 3Ah batteries though, and they are wired in parallel, which means I have 6Ah at my disposal: plenty of current.

i'm useing a Tyco r/c 7.2v NiCd batt. that i got from wall-mart for 20.00$
and it works fine try it. you might not have the sound in the right spot on your screen.
