One more NESp troubleshoot

Post by LToidKing »

I got my NESp working (hooray! Kirby and Little Nemo look wonderful!), but now all that's working on my D-pad is the down button. I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem. All my wiring is up to par with what's in the book, with some "flubbing" done on my part because of the afforementioned defeciencies in the proof reading (which I fixed by referring to previous chapters and comparing pin-outs).

I know it's possible I got some bad buttons from Digi-key, but 3 out of 8? That's a load of BS.

Well, I somehow killed the video on my nes, so I'm gonna do a bunch of re-soldering today.

The thing is, it's not just one button, it's 3 buttons that aren't working.

Does anyone know which colored wire carries the signal for the Dpad? That may be my problem.

Doesn't the NES D-PAD just connect to the encoder chip via traces?

That it does. Each direction is a separate switch. I'm gonna pick up some new switches and find another NES... I think I fried this one

Third time's a charm, right?

Actually, I've had that happen before, but it was when I was working on an NES VR controller. I think there was a wire going to the wrong place, or maybe it was a connection missing. But I've had that problem, and it's caused by one of those two. I hope that will help.
