Replacing the shell for the GBA SP 101?

Post by moviefan2k4 »

Hey, all.

I haven't been here for quite a while, but I recently found one of the backlit GBA SP's, and wanted to replace the outer shell (its scratched like crazy). I found a website called Gaming Generations, that sells a replacement shell, but I don't know if there's any differences with the 101 model.

Has anyone tried this kind of thing before? I'd need all the help I can get. Thanks! :)

You got a backlit SP? You lucky SOB! :o This looks pretty straight-forward too. Should be doable. The hardest thing would probably be finding a triowing, if you don't allready have one :) Honestly tho, I didnt even use one, just used a flatheaded one and applied my inhuman strength unto it  I gotta stress that you take it easy when removing the screen cover! You do not wanna fk up a backlit sp-screen, I'm sure you agree.
As for differences between models; haven't heard anything about any differences and if there are any they probably wouldn't stop you dead in your tracks. It's most likely no differences between the models except the screen ofc, but I'm not 100% sure so don't quote me on that.

I would go for it, no doubt! And that black case looks very, very sexy as well 8)

Yeah I found one at a local video store for $60. They had 3 of the standard AGS-001 units, and a single 101, too. The latter is pearl blue, and scratched all over with some paint chips, but it still works fine. :)

Why don't you just buy a replacement shell on eBay? They are like $6

I don't trust a lot of people with my bank info, so I don't use Ebay.

I have a Paypal account, but its been so long since I used it that I don't remember the password. I just don't want anyone online to have any access to my bank info but me.

Anyway, back on topic: has anyone has any experience with replacing GBA SP shells?

My main question is whether there's any difference in the shell itself, between the 001 and 101 models. My original post shows the 3rd-party site I found for buying one, but I wanted to see if anyone had used them before.

Well to my experience the only difference between the 101 and 001 is the backlight LCD. Other than that I'm about 90% sure physically the cases and components are the same.
