PS2p Power Help

Hello Benheck forums again, it has been a while.

Well, recently I decided that I would go for the PS2 Laptop I wanted to begin a couple of years ago, and after compiling everything and coming along quite nicely, I have reached a halt; the power/battery.

So far my setup is like such:


The battery is yet to be determined, suggestions would be marvelous.
The screen (portable TV) is this.
The PS2 takes 8.5 volts (approx).

An 8.5 volt regulator: *click*

Problem: How the *flip* do you wire it?

EDIT: BTW, before you comment on that because I live in Australia it won't work, (NTSC vs PAL), it will - it is an american PS2 and screen, so buying american is helpful!!
(an added bonus is that I can still sell to the american market )

EDIT 2: Also BTW, if it were easier to use 14.8v Li-Po and use two regulators (one for ps2, one for screen), please say. Thanks in advance again.

EDIT 3: The screen runs of 12 volts (according to source), would it run off 11.1 volts? That would just be to save some $$ and also help with regulating the power for the PS2

you may have an NTSC version PS2, and screen, but since you live in Australia, any games you find will most likely be PAL

Yeah, I know this. I don't use any australian games, I have a mod chip so I can use backups *cough* and buy games from America on eBay and Amazon. I bought this ps2 off a friend a few years ago, because the ones in store cost heaps.
Also, another question, is there any set up that I would be able to use for charging while playing? I saw ShockSlayer's layout, but where'd the AC adapter come from? Thanks.

well generally speaking, if you want to charge while playing, you either need a way to double the current of the charging source on demand, so that it will divide in half (parallel circuit) and charge the batteries while powering the PS2, or, what im doing with my portable, is having both a charging jack and a direct PS2 ac adapter jack, so that i can still play while charging, or just not use the battery at all. for this to work you just need to have the battery power flow controlled by a switch, so that the PS2 ac adapter can bypass the batteries and flow directly to the ps2.

Aaaah, that's where the AC adapter comes from. Thanks HEAPS! Yeah, I should be set.
The screen I'm using takes 12 volts, it would be safe to assume that 11.1 volts will work; would 7.4v be pushing it?
Also, regarding the voltage regulator, any suggestions as to which ones to use?

EDIT: Just for confirmation, you would connect the negative terminal of the AC adapter to GND/negative, yes?

hmmm, well for my money i think that 7.4 volts would be rather low, but certainly 11.1 would be sufficient. and as for voltage regulators, this one is small, adjustable, and cheap:

and yes, the negative terminal of the ac would be connected to ground

Hey, thanks for the help.
On the regulator, it outputs 1.5A, should I use 2 of them in series for approx 3A for the PS2's apparent draw of 5A, or should it be good?

Another question, if the PS2p will be running off 11.1v AC power, are there any AC chargers you recommend?
The screen will come with an AC charger, and it's inbuilt battery is 12v, so it would probably (correct me if I'm wrong) be at 12v. Would it work?

No, I am using a regulator to regulate to voltage of the PS2 from 11.1v to 8.5v-ish and the screen will stay the same. I was just wondering what AC charger to use to power both and what setup to use.

well that all depends of course on which batteries you end up going with, but considering the voltage requirements you've already mentioned (11.1v), you might want to consider going with the PCB, corresponding batteries, and the charger linked below:

Several of us have had bad overheating problems with those regulators. They get extremely hot and shut off in a portable.
