"The new interface will allow some new forms of innovation," Iwata explained on the subject. "Already, you're seeing changes in Nintendo DS, which has a microphone, input pen, and touch screen. We have a number of candidates for a new [Revolution] interface but are not ready to reveal them. All I can say right now is that whatever we choose will be intuitive and easy to use for everyone."

zooooooooooooooo...... KA-BOOM!

That's the sound of the Nintendo Revolution as it bombs and drags Nintendo's stock into the gutter. 3-D, touch me, WHO CARES? It's just gonna be new versions of the following games:

Mario
Zelda
Mario Cart
Metroid
Smash Bros.

Got another one!

zooooooooooooooo..... KABOOM-a-360!!!!!

Wow, the next Xbox has landed! With the dumbest name ever (360????? Because it's more than 2??? ARGH!!) and a bunch of P4 processors put in parallel for easy "power". Since it's pretty much CERTAIN this is coming out this Christmas... hello, Dreamcast anybody? I think people will wait for the PS3. I know I will. I'm a HUGE Perfect Dark fan but even that (as the supposed "killer app" launch title) doesn't blow my skirt up.

I know I sound cynical, but a 4 year window to next system is very very short...

Its not all irrational. Nintendo relies on the same old tricks (and they are pretty archaic). And Microsoft relies on supreme l337 u13er graphics crap, because they cant make good games look good, they have to make bad games look 'great'. Both of these methods are pretty low blows.

I don't know about that Sony has had minor to average problem with all their console hardware so far and there are tons of horrible games floating around the PS2 library(not to say all consoles really).

Yes, the name is stupid, that's marketing for you, but then again, simply adding 2, 3, etc is unoriginal too. Also, it's gonna have PowerPC processors, none of that Pentium crap, which will make for a fast, efficient, powerful console. As far as 'Dreamcast syndrome,' I think the new Xbox will sell very well, Microsoft's Live service has been doing wonders, and they're taking it to the next level with the new console.
BTW, I know, it's Microsoft, I can't stand their software or their monopoly on the PC industry, but as an avid Halo fan, I'm hoping for the best for their next console.

I hope that's an attempt at irony. Sony are well known for their consistently shoddy console build quality.

Realy, Nintendo just keeps teaching old dogs new tricks. Take away all the Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Kirby, and Cartoon Network games and what do you have left? Banjo-Kazooie and Waverace and a few others. They should come up with something new and not rely so much on 20-year-old game franchises. Mario is a great game franchise, but they need to be more creative in their game designs. They're hiring 3rd party companies to develop games now, for chrissakes!

As for the Xbox 360, I say f*** it. It's just going to be an outdated, linux-running, nvidia-card-rrendered, console-disguised contender who's just going to fall behind the PS3 and the NR. (Especially if the PS3 is compatible with PSX and PS2 games. It will have the largest game library in history!)

I understand, Nintendo needs to get games such as GTA on the revolution, because if they don't, their only sales will be from the aforementioned titles, which will still get them a hell of a lot of sales. THE NEW ZELDA LOOKS AMAZING!

Exactly what Sega did with the Dreamcast. A couple of billion dollars in debt later they realised it wasn't so smart. Regardless of how much people say they want a new franchise, they rarely sell as well as a new Mario game.
They're hiring 3rd party companies to develop games now, for chrissakes!
As I understand it's the other way around - companies are paying to license the franchises, because they know the games they make are a guaranteed sale.

It's not going to be running anything to do with linux, and it won't have an nvidia GPU in it, but aside from that you might be right. Microsoft have more spare change than the other two competitors, however, and I'm sure this will make a difference. They came from ridicule to 2nd/3rd place in the last console wars, and that's not easy.
