Ok this is now the Log for my creation of a sega genesis 2 P.
I am not very far along though but it could Work!
Progress Report!
Extraction: Done
Battery power mod: Done
remove extras: Mostly done
Controller to Mobo: Pray for me!
screen: In progress
Case: In progress
Other things...
You may have noticed i requested you guys to pray for me (:P) this is because when i was removing the controller ports i messed up copper wires going to it so i don't know whats gonna happen...
I have finished making the battery port.
LED burned from the soldering gun Woops... lol I am goin to replace it Blue
I removed the Power switch and reset button and wired them for Moving around.
search. read. learn. research. nobody is gonna hold your hand and walk you through it. there are no tutorials. there are no howtos. you need to figure it out like the rest of us. we can help but we wont spoon feed you every step. Get reading
OK let me rephraze this. do i have to do anything to the circuit board before hooking up the battery?
I am pretty sure this is not a hard question for people who have been doing this for a while.
also if i am going to research any good ideas on were to start?

start here! read other people's project threads. not just for the genesis but for other systems as well. they all basically behave the same way. as for powering the board, no just supply it with a voltage.
ok when i plug my 9.6V NIMH battery to it (RC car one) all that happens is it sparks once and stops. I know the battery is full charge and i know that it didn't burn my genesis's board because i hooked it up to the original power supply and it works fine. would this mean i am not powering it enough or to much? what is the lowest required voltage of the genesis?

9.6v isn't enough to power a genesis. The power supply puts out above 10v and can pump that out at 850 mA. So you just need more battery and it'll run fine.

cool i will try this and get back,
also how about 7 AA, would that work? would it dramatically cut battery life?
when i get the screen will the same method that worked to hack it for NES work for this? (Its a PSone screen)

7 AAs should be able to power it, but the battery life would be pretty flimsy at best. At 850+ mA draw, even a set of good AA batteries would only give you 2.5-3 hours of battery life, and that's without a screen. With a screen running off of those AAs, the operating time would drop down even more. You'd get even less time with rechargeable batteries due to their lower voltage (but then, they are rechargeable lol)
As for the screen, yes the same method will work fine. All the mod does is reduce the power consumption of the screen (also darkens the screen a little bit too). Sucker will still draw a fair amount of juice tho (combined with the Genesis, you're looking at anywhere from 1100-1300 mAh total power draw depending on volume level and genesis activity).

I tried this and nothing happened which either means i should remove the AC plugin or i should charge my batteries again.
If I should remove the AC now is it safe to desolder it? I was about to and one of my friends said it would mess up the circuit board by overheating it.

theyre soldered on the board arent they? then they can be removed by desoldering. but the plug shouldnt get in the way. i would charge your batteries if i were you
I got it, it turns out i was connecting one wire from the battery to ground and thats why it was sparking. but i plugged it up and turned it on and its good. now i just got to get a screen.
(I got the BenHeck book today so i will read up)
One more question:
How do i now if my controller is male? (For connecting the wires directly to the motherboard)
