My DREAM... THE PLAYBOOK [Extreme PS2 mod]

Post by KANDYMAN-IAC »

Take one cut down ps2 slimline, one mad catz unversal 7" screen, plus sony's own linux boot set up all running from a 100gb laptop harddrive... possibly even a switch to an alternate 100gb laptop drive stacked with PS2 games, all running from a set of sweet ass lithium polymer batteries. In an attractive calmshell notebook style case.

And then I would a have a sweet personal dvd player/game console/ultra small linux based laptop/mp3 player/ebook reader/ and mpeg movie player.

(all prices US)
Mad Catz screen = $110
PS2 = $149.99
linux pack = $200
tiny usb keyboard = $7
small usb trackball mouse = $7
harddrive = $80
batteries = (uncertain lets say $150 to be safe)...

total outlay (not including the likelyhood I'd have to rebuy things as i break them) = $694...

then that price has to be converted to australian dollars and shipped to me from the states... so lets toss another hundred in on top... the lot will come to aprox $992.5 australian.

In the end i may well be better off buying a laptop and running a ps emulator on it.... and forcing myself to live with the fact that it has an ugly giant footprint.

:( It would have been sooooooo cool had it not been sooooo expensive.

oh... btw walmart is selling the 7" mad catz for $110 right now, and then they aren't selling them anymore. Here is the link. http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product. ... id=2697523

I've spent the afternoon looking into industrial video lcd screens and kits...

here are coulpe of good websites to check out...
(all are ntsc and pal... apparently auto switching)

http://www.caltronind.com/lcd_kits/video_kit.htm
&

check out the whole website... no prices are listed... but contact them if you find something you like and hopefully they would be fairly competitevly priced.

I just thought I'd say that if you're gonna use li-poly batteries (especially around $150 worth) you're gonna want a good charger....and the best one I know of is $130 :(........
Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!

as long as he has a charger from somiething old what he does not use anymore (e.g. gba charger or old mobile charger) you should not worry about spending an extra 130 dollars.
I'm making a Gamecube portable.

Can you even use the PS2 Linux kit on the PS Two? Or use a different harddrive with the kit? Last I heard you couldn't do either

If you do that harddrive mod to the PStwo it'll probably work.

Though where are you going to get a linux kit?

Well, since he's not going to use the orginal IDE adapter, VGA cable or harddrive, I believe that he could download one of the newer Linux distros for PS2. I'm not familiar with the PS-Two harddrive mod, so I'm not sure if it can boot PS2 Linux, but hopefully you could.

Dude, make it even sweeter and build a custom plexi-glass case, complete with CCFT tubes! Doing that HDD mod will be crazy, but awsome! Go for it! Don't use laptop HDDs, won't work probably...
