Okay, two things.
1. I need a substitute for Kevin's reset schematic. One that doesn't need that CD4050.
2. I need opinions... what video mod is the "best"? The CD4050 mod is probably the best, but I'm trying to make this thing really small, and if I can, cutting out a 16 pin IC and a dozen resistors would make my job much easier. I found this page which has a few different mods on it: http://www.cheeptech.com/2600mods/2600mods.shtml *looks at it again* Huh... I thought it had more than that. Well, out of these, I seem to have two options. Ben's mod, and the first one up there. The other two are the one I don't want to use because of it's high part count, and a different one with MORE parts. And even though it's S-video, which would be awesome... that's just too many parts. Besides... don't you guys think s-vid is a bit much for Atari? Why don't you overclock it while your at it!
Anyway, it's between those two and whatever else you can come up with. What one do you guys think is the best?
Thanks.
Rain
Edit: *actually LOOKS at s-video mod* Oh. Okay then. Schematics aren't even provided anyway. It's a kit... interesting...

There's also a different 4050 mod that just jumps it's I/O pins, so (assuming that the resistance between I/O is 0 ohms) just substitute a 500k resistor for the 1M one that's in parallel with the 4050.
Edit:
also, on my pcb design I just have a header directly connected to the TIA, so you can use whatever video mod you want

I never said use that mod, I'm just saying that if you can jump the i/o of the 4050 for the video mod you can do the same for the reset circuit.

How can I do that when the reset generator uses the 4050?
Can I use the reset section in this? It seems obvious that I could, but I'm not sure if I can use an Atari 2600s reset generator with Atari 2600 Jr schematics. Just doesn't seem right.

Okay, I have drawn up a schematic of the connections between the three chips. I needed to do this so I can link it to my PCB to make the trace routing easier. But I WAS just going to skip to the PCB. Anyway, I need you guys to tell me what you think. I'm PRETTY sure all of the pin numbers are correct, but I need some fresh eyes. Can you guys help me out? Here's the link to my schematic: http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/electric_ ... pg&.src=ph
I had to create the parts myself because, naturally, they weren't in the part library of ExpressSCH. So I put the pins in the most convenient spots so I didn't have to worry about wire crossing or anything else that might be confusing. Also, I hate busses, so there's lots of wires there.
The two resistors in the schematic are 100 ohms. Thanks.

Yeah, but will you get good ones?
I bought a RIOT chip from them, which came pressed into ordinary white styrofoam (this would actually be OK if they had put a piece of aluminum foil on top of the foam first, but of course they didn't), and as expected it was dead when I tried it.
All 3 of the VCS ICs are early MOS process chips, which are EXTREMELY static sensitive and must be handled using proper procedures, unless you're in a high humidity environment, and even then I would be careful.
Grammar Cheatsheet:
they are = they're
that place = there
relating to "them" = their
Mum! Dad! Don't touch it! It's EEE-VIL!
