Problem, I wired everything up correctly but my audio amp is squealing and the n64 isnt on. Could cutting off the pins (long poles) on a TI reg ruin it?

as long as you still have metal to connect your wires to the chip you should be fine. if your cutting off legs your not using then that will be fine too. You could think of the legs like 'wire' ..like they connect to internal parts of the chip and allow you a place to connect to..and same with wire, if it's attached to something, you can cut it in half and the piece of wire that's still connected will work just the same as it did originally

..yea sorry for the bad explanations..I didn't have a lot of sleep last night

I understand, I just wondered. Well, the LED on the amp isnt coming on, could that mean it is undervolting?

Soon. I hooked up another step down, but no dice. I think the board is fried. I have a spare, but I would have to cut it down.

I got a multimeter, and fixed the problem. Progress as it comes.

Ok, now when I turn it on, the 3.3v line is only get 3v. The amp buzzes, and the n64 comes on, but the screen eventually gets white lines and the n64 and amp turn off. Could this be an undervolting issue?

sounds like it, I think the minimum the 3.3v line can have is 3.12v or something

Thanks! I'll switch to a PTH08000, I hear its better than the 08080

You've been misinformed then lol. The only difference between them is that the PTH08080's max voltage input is 18v and the PTH08000's max input is 14v. Other than that (and the fact one has 6 pins, other has 5) they're identical. to get the right voltage you'll be wanting to change the resistor. What resistor do you have on it at the moment?
