UGHHH Stupid desoldering iron

Post by Bucklihead »

Well I got Ben's book about a week ago and everything for it. I practiced desoldering on a broken controller. ON Monday I started desoldering parts off the Psone motherboard, but there are a few leads that I was not able to desolder. They were the three leads on the power thing, the four big leads on the A/V thing and one of the ig leads on the controller/memory card port. I used the search function, but the information that I found wasn't to useful for me. Sorry for my n00bishness

Why do you use a desoldering iron? Just go to radioshack. Get some copper braid. Its probably right next to the solder. It works really well. You just put it between the soldering iron and the point you want to desolder, and it absorbs it. It takes a little practice though (just like soldering). If all else fails, make a bigger case, and just plug the screen into the psone. Hope this info is useful

Did you try putting some flux on the pins?

If i put more solder on the lead would it work? Then the old solder and the new solder would mix.
