Portable Nes Battery

Post by masterclas »

I found this rechargable battery in an old portable DVD player and am going to use it for my portable Nes project.
It is 7.4 Volts and 2500 milliAmps.

What do you think? Will it be suitable?

For the record, I have never made a portable. However, what I do know is that the NES will happily run off 7.4 volts.

Protection/charge circuit and all eh? Good stuff! 7.4v is more than enough to power a NES portable...and at 2500 mAh, you'll get plenty of play time to boot :)

Just curious, but about how long will those batteries last on a full charge?

Depends on what is in the portable. A NOAC and a small screen (like the ones on Dealextreme) combined with a small audio amp (like an LM386) will draw around 300 mAh total, so that battery pack will provide about 8 hours of power.

If something more power hungry is being used, like an original NES and PS1 screen, you'd probably only get about 4 hours out of it.

Like I said, it depends what hardware is being used.

I plan on using an led modded zenith screen and a yobo famiclone with this switching regulator. Any ideas on how long that will last on a 2500 mAh? I'm not good with batteries *remembers the time when his batteries almost exploded in his face*

Almost the same screen/NES I used in my PNES mark1 (used a yobo at first, but smoked it, and went with a retro bit instead).

You'll get right around 5-6 hours of power out of 2500 mAh.
