Nintendo 64 Help Needed

Post by DasXero »

I realize this may be a hassel for you guys like "omg another beginner posting these narb questions" but i seriously want to do this project! I am a beginner, and my previous advancements in technology are: building a computer, breaking apart a gamecube and putting it back together (i broked it), gamecube controller, etc.

so im starting with not much but thats how i learn, im telling you all this so you can see what i know and better answer my questions. Now, I have already bought and torn apart: Zenith 5" lcd screen for xbox w/ ps2 adapter, Nintendo 64 NUS001 (i believe, its black), Retro 64 controller, RAM Expander for N64 (tested and works with DK64), Memory Pro thingy for the controller,

and i also have but not sure itll help or not: 2.2k Ohm Resistors, 100 uF Electrolytic capacitors?, soldering iron, hot glue gun...

So yeah you get what i have and what experience i have now, i believe.

Anyways my questions are as follows
is the 2.2k Ohm resistor right? Because (no offense) Harshboys diagram is hard for me to follow, but also very easy

What do i use for a battery and EXACTLY how do i wire it with a charger and all that?

What do i use as wires for wiring this whole thing?

My screen is seemingly a little different than in diagrams and whatnot, tomorrow i will post pictures for help

How can i get that TI PTH08000 thing?

Also what else do i need for parts, and what should i use as a case?

This is all I can answer

1. No, it's actually a 1.8k Ohm resistor (Here's Bacteria's better diagram in my opinion: http://moddedbybacteria.files.wordpress ... guide1.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; )
2. A good battery to use for portables is the Canon BP-911 / BP-915 cells. (two per portable) and the wiring for it is in the link above.
5. The "TI PTH08000 thing" is a Texas Instruments PTH08000
6. Tools you will need are:
- Basic screwdrivers (Gamebit if you don't want to melt a bic-pen to get into a n64)
- Pliers
- Pinces
- Wire trimmers
- Scissors
- Dremel
--Standard drill bits, and grinding stones for dremel
- Multimeter
- Polyfilla to fill gaps in between the case
- Hot glue gun
- Electrical tape
- Plexiglas
- File
- Sandpaper (Sanding blocks will be useful, too)
- Variety of screws
- Pen
- Spacers (Beads will work)
- Wires
- Tact switches
- The step down regulator (The "TI PTH08000 thing" + 100uF capacitor, any voltage from 16v up + 1.8k ohm resistor)
- Soldering iron, 30 watts is fine, pencil pointed
- Pack of solder
- N64
- PSone screen or Verge screen
- N64 controller

You can use a 2.2k resistor, it's just that it gives you 3.1v instead of 3.3v. If you have a newer N64 (like rev. 9) you will probably need the exact 3.3v, and thus a 1.8k resistor.

Thanks that was very helpful! Also another few things I'm wondering are as follows

how do I getone of these TI Pth things?

What are good wires to use for this project?

wow thought there was more to ask... Than again maybe it's because I'm typing this on my iPod when I just woke up? Anywho I actually already opened the zenith screen and the n64, and since I'm too cheap to go looking for a gamebit I burned plastic on my finger. But I got it open right?

I'm going to be posting more questions and whatnot here so thanks again guys!

If you look to the right of his post, over his avatar, it has his name. You can spell it correctly if you look at it before you type it.

using this link: http://forums.benheck.com/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=34576 which one of those should i do, how do i do it, and how many should i buy so it lasts for 2 hours minimum?

OR should i just ENTIRELY do something different than this for powering my n64p?

Look, I realize this is basically asking to be spoon fed info, but im new at this stuff, and we all need to learn! So please collect your patience for more questions that will come! thanks!

EDIT:
Also, sorry for the double post, but i figured 2 separate thoughts need 2 separate posts.

Anyways another question, which TI PTH thing should i use? PTH08000, or PTH08080? also whats the difference between the PTH08000 WAS, WAZ, and all that?
Thanks again guys!

i'm kind of new at this myself, but it really depends on which type of battery you're using, and how many of them. For example, i am using four 3.7 volt 2300 maH batteies. i have to double the voltage, and then connect them to double the maH. so i would connect both sets of two , so i would then have two 7.4 volt battery packs. then i would connect both of these packs in sequence to double the time it will last. with 4600 maH, i should get around two hours depending on which revision of my n64 i have. hope this helps. btw: you don't have to apologize to the grammar gestapo :)

I don't look down on your habit, because it is a good one. it's nice to see people still have morals. i do look down on people who have to always pick on people about thier grammar (i spelled their wrong on purpose).

PS: sorry for being useless. but, have you checked out modded by bacteria's website? http://www.moddedbybacteria.wordpress.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; it's an awesome guide for all of us new guys.

don't worry about it.
