JASPER 360 LAPTOP LOG top cover hub ,ir snsr , hdd activity

Post by mdh16 »

Okay if some remembered ive started an xbox 360 laptop log, and ive have happenly to dissapear but the reason why is because the falcon board i was first using shorted out with the dreaded 0001 error. so ive finally bought a jasper board and im so amazed by how quite it ISSS!!!!! the new gpu is a big improvement from old one.

Alrighty so I first started on desoldering components of the board (NOTE RADIOSHACK HAS OFFICIALLY DISCONTINUED THEIR DESOLDERING IRON SO STOCK UP ON TIPS NOW LOL),It took an hour and 30 to get it done.
ImageAfter that ive started attatching or so soldering the ports to their designated header starting with the power supply port i used a molex connector for it..yes i know i cut it but the darn thing was so hard to detatch lol..
Image
Next I started on the dvd drive the only thing i had to put work on was the power cable finished that and wrapped it in electrical tape to prevent shortages 8)
oh yeah simply bought a cheap 18 in sata cable
Image
Stay tuned (and im sorry for abandoning my last 360 log)

Next in the build since i have the new cpu heatsink(not really new just the latest rev) i finally decided to chop it down (please do not use a grinder to cut these use a hack saw)
came out okay.
(Please note i am no not stupid i put the gpu heatsink sideways on purpose because of the soon to be cooling solution ive brained up)
my cooling solution is not going to be on the back of the portable but on the side of it) stay tuned till i order more fans, its hard to explain.
oh yeah also used the gpu heatsink from the falcon with the extended heat pipe since the jasper came with one like zephry boardImage

Re: Xbox 360 Laptop Log cutting the heat sink to size!!

Post by mdh16 »

So after doodling with the heat sink i got back to working on the ports first with the hd port (please note im not ghetto that blue tape was a last resort since ive ran out of electrical tape but soon will be changing it) Image
next was the ethernet/usb port connected it to its rightful female header to the board.. Image
Cant forget the ethernet port/connector. if your wondering what the switch that is jb welded to it is the video switch for the av hub system
its going to have component and hdmi, but it is mainly used to switch between component and the main monitor which is of course vga

Also yeah you see the wifi wired up...

Re: JASPER 360 LAPTOP LOG "(AV HUB FINISHED) PSU PROGRESS

Post by mdh16 »

Today ive finally finished up my final revision on the av hub, just need to add hdmi port, but ive planned to let it sit since i have 4 other 360s to play and its just goin to be a personal portable so im going with component and composite for now(dont even need vga)

to make the hub I first opened up bens templates on adobe illustrator cs4 and printed them out
Image

Then I had traced em out on a piece of .125 aluminum sheet and then used some cutters to cut it then used a drill with a bit for the holes simple 8)
I first did a practice one and It came out ssooooo horrible
Image

second times a charm, it came out good enough  so attached the ports and added some jb weld to secure them, then left it in the sun for 30 min to dry/harden quicker..Just like I said lol it came out okay, im going to do a paint job on it soon any way.

Post by mdh16 »

Ben inovating up some ideas to create it to the max. so ive decied to make a bottom top cover hub indicator to be located by the keyboard
Its going to have indications such as HDD activity, wifi status(wifi led),and IR sensor. so the only thins I can accomplish now is part of the hdd activity light and the ir sensor mainly because I have to wait till im done with case construction

Yep didnt really do that much on the hdd activity except for soldering a wire to pin 11 and hooking up a 5v source
Image

next was just soldering/extending the ir sensor
DANG THE PICTURE DIDNT LOAD LOL
BUT I ALSO DESOLDERED THE WIFI LEDS (SINGLE-DOUBLE LED_

Oh forgot also extended+ add a harness for the eject button still thinking about the sync button though i might just put it by the eject button
Image

was thinking on some ways for the lcd power switch thought about using this old thing (pushin push out) :P

Was thinking a lot more while driving home from school and I thought it would be neat to have bezels over the ports 8)
So ive added to the list to make bezels for the power port, ethernet port, and the dvd drive slot

So far ive only done the power port..first i made the design in adobe illustrator cs4, then printed it out the template, trace it on the .125 sheet of alluminum then cut the piece. Came out okay, not perfect but close to it..Heres some pics to give you guys an idea looks good so far (NOTE THE NOTCH ON THE SIDE IF FOR THE 3.8V 3MM STAND BY LED FROM THE ROL JUST GOTTA DRILL THE HOLE FOR IT AND THE HOLES FOR THE NUTS BOLTS AND WASHERS ETC.
Image
Image

Also cut out a rectangle piece for the botton top cover hub 8)
now all i gotta do is add the holes for the hdd activity light, wifi light, and irsensor (the ir hole is going to be bigger for signal reach)
and the idea for the hdd and wifi leds are for them to illuminate through a piece of plexi glass so that that the surface be flush hope understand lol

but ill post more tomorrow, Ill be working on wiring the new revision of the av hub and the ethernet port bezel tonight peace
