Awkward Dreamcast with reset issue, I'm out of ideas

Post by adam_d »

Hi guys, I've got a couple of Pal UK Dreamcasts here, both with the same resetting problem that seems to be pretty common with them. The first, I cleaned up and following instruction I found on google put slight pressure on the pins, and it ran great for 2 days non stop, now it started resetting again about once an hour.

The second, I tried cleaning the pins, putting pressure on them, cleaning the slots they go into on the power board, and still it resets. When it has warmed up, it stays on a little longer, but still resets.

I'm out of ideas on what to do next with them, they both are reading discs fine, I have cleaned the laser on the second one and it is running fine now as I type, but if I were to reset it manually, it would probably not boot. Anyone got any ideas on what else I can try?

Edit: I don't want to have to replace the power supplies if I can help it, but would I be right in thinking soldering the power supply directly to the pins would probably solve these problems permanently?

There's a second cause that has to do with a switch that detects if the lid is closed, so it might be that. Hope I helped! I also hear that you need to bend the pins in a different direction on PAL machines.
mods completed:

NES overclock
Sega Genesis model 1 jap/eng switch
