doing some Game Gear mods - need help!

Post by Scorp.ius »

Hi!

I have done some mods on my Game Gear (2 ASIC version).

first i changed th caps on the sound and main board. everything worked fine. then i tried a TV mod. sadly this one does not work i only get a black screen and some buzzing noises with very muted music...

then i did a LED mod which works fine.

so now i wanted to change the caps on the power board (where you plug in the power adapter and turn on the console) - there are three and i have some probs.

the big one:
is fine.

the middle one:
is soldered fine too, but i allways got a connection between the two solder points... can this be right? i even scratched between them to be sure there is no shortcut, but my multimeter was beeping...

this is question number one: can it be right, that there is a connection between + and minus of the middle capacitor???

the small one:
I desoldered the old one and use desoldering braid to get rid of the solder on the points. of course there where no holes (i am not good in desoldering i think :P) so i drilled some...
of course the solder points where destroyed after that. where can I connect + and - of the small cap. some alternative points?

Can you upload a pic of the full board then the location of the caps?
I would love to try to help with this.

hi!

i am not sure if i understand what you are asking for ;)
the parts side of the board is attached above. in the middle you can see my mess :P as i said i was able to scratch some wire free for the "+" but cant find anything for the "-".

the red wire is attached to both the plus on the board an plus of the cap (the green one)

you can see the drill hole which ripped the solder points off of the board.

here is another pic from the solder side of the board. on this Foto the right one is plus - the left one is minus

i think if you have an old version Game Gear (with 2 ASIC's) you could measure with a multimeter, where the minus connects to. ;)

thanks, i have found my second gg (which is 2 asic too fortunately) and i could measure it for my self. the middle cap HAS contact between the + and -

and the small cap's minus is connected to the middle one - and +... weired thing
