portable 360 power problems

Post by casper7 »

heres the deal, my screen is not getting enough power. i have it and the speaker amp wired to the 360s power brick. the one in use is 150w and is the one that came with the xbox. i have a spare 175w! :D if i used that one do you think it would work? i did it like the how to so i didnt think it was drawing power away from one thing or the other :? also i have an old 203w brick if that would be better

Just try it, it can't hurt anything. Hopefully it is a lack of power that is causing the problem, so the other bricks should fix it.

Did you wire it like this? (Just confirming)

Maybe the screen takes 14v or a higher voltage. The way the guide goes works because the monitor Ben uses takes 12v and 5v, the same voltages as the 360 (Check for the number on your LCD power board).

Also, did you cut your power board?

didn't split the board, just ran the wires. i can see its 12v going from the power board to the vga board if that is what you ment. also my speakers have a 120v in and 9v out connected to the same spot. gonna try the 203v brick later and see if it helps.

well the 203v brick didnt help. :( may just hook the cord back up. not what i wanted to do but not sure what else to do. was thinking it might b the lack of third prong (ground) but i emailed ben and he said i shouldnt need it. wouldnt know where to hook it up any way with the 360 brick only having 2 prongs.

what gauge wires are you using from the power supply up to the monitor? It could be too small.

probobly should of mentioned this befor but it worked befor i extended the wires from the lcd power board to the vga board. also extended wires from the screen to the power board. think they are for the back light. i used a biger guage wire so not sure why that would affect any thing.

Are they pink and white? All the backlight wires I've ever seen were pink and white.

backlight wires really don't like to be messed with. thetwojsomething said that if the two sets of extened wires touched, it doesn't turn on. If they are too close to the LCD, it doesn't turn on. That why he had to run the wires up over his recent 360 laptop and keep them separated like they are. something about the proximity of the wires to the LCD.

shorten the wires back up and see if it turns on again.

Have you modified any of the circuitry in the monitor other than desoldering the "mains" supply recepticle? if so you should be able to run cables to the "mains" recepticle in the brick, to test it just hook it directly to the wall socket (via plug ofcourse)
