Another update. I got the second hardest thing done, only took 3 hours. Unfortunately it didn't work the first time so I had to do it again, that was a day wasted, oh well, still 7 days to MGC!

I can see that one of those wires is over the edge of the metal. So it is probably not even making contact.

So?

You're trying to call that from a picture when I've already tested it and it works? Trust me, it's soldered there.

He thought you didn't get it to work, so he was saying it might not be working because one of the wireslooked like it wasn't touching good.

At least that's what I got out of it :)

Well don't I feel foolish in my own thread. :?

I wouldn't really post a picture of something so small and expect help for it when it's not working.

Anyway, back on track.

Aright guys, I need your help. The n64 is acting really weird.

I rcp wired it this morning and before that tested all of my games to make sure the expansion pak wouldn't be a variable if it didn't work. They all worked fine.

Now a few hours later with all 30 wires connected, (power and ground are wired too but they are bridged on the slot so I only use 1 wire) There are no shorts and according to the multimeter everything is connected properly.

Now here's the weird part, it seems that only some games work, out of all of the games I tested only golden eye, perfect dark, quake, and paper mario worked, all the other games just gave me the green screen. (it's a very dark green that almost looks black, it's what you get when it's not wired right)

The games that I tested that didn't work were: mario 64, pokemon stadium 2, mario tennis, mario party 3, hydro thunder. I didn't test all of my games.

I suspect it might be the length and gauge of the wires, it's kynar wire and most of it is at almost 6 inches. (it has to stretch to the top to reach the slot.

So what do you guys think it could be? SS did you experience this problem? (the only other person I remember doing it is bacteria)

Connect all of the power and ground wires. Yes, there's a reason there's more than one.

It may not *make* it work, but you'd check another thing off the list. 6 inches is pretty long, that worries me.

Actually they are all connected, I was a little unclear, heh, they are all connected, but each doesn't have it's own wire, they're bridged on the slot it self.

Later I'm going to open a couple of them up and compare them, it might be a wire that doesn't have a very good connection that those games need, and the others don't.

I opened up a few of them and could find no obvious differences or consistences between the carts that work and the ones that don't. I did find that smash bros works though.

If I can't figure anything else out I'll just shorten the wires to what the absolutely need to be.

The wires were just too long, I shortened them once, pokemon stadium worked, shortened them again, mario 64 booted but couldn't get past the title screen because of drawing too much power. Did it once more and all it well, will be shortening again to make sure it all works %100.

Bad news everyone, this portable will not be done for a few more weeks. I wanted to finish before mgc so I could bring it there but that's just not possible to do.

I will be able to finish after but it will need some reworking, the case almost works but I need to do a lot of organization and shrinking, which will take more then a couple days. The low led circuit will have to be removed and downsized, and the batteries are external right now, the docking station is only half done at the moment. The unit is running but I don't want to post pics or a video because this is not finished and I don't want people to think it is.

Frankly I'm really burnt out from the last few weeks of work, just in the last few days I've had to resoak my soldering iron sponge a few times because I was working literally from 10am-8pm. No wonder this portable has only been 2 months in the making, way fast then my other 2.

I will be bringing this to mgc but only as an unfinished unit, there's still about a quarter inch showing and it runs on wall power. So this portable will be postponed for a couple weeks, but will be at mgc.

The nice thing is that this portable is %100 working but is so small that it needs a lot more work to get everything to fit, turns out the wire is taking up more room then I thought.

This is the 64boy nearly complete, will be reorganized to get the batteries in.

Got the docking station done too, works well. Green led lights up when it's connected.

1st and 2nd player ports.
Image
3rd and 4th player ports.
Image
These are the ports for analog video, the 3 ports aren't colored because the colored ones would fall apart if they were cut that small. You can tell which is which because the video is next to s video, and the audio ports are left and right, indicating left and right audio channels. And yes I do right important stuff to remember on my hands. :dahroll:

Uses a 15 pin vga header.
Image
3rd and 4th player insides
Image
All the other ports are on the other half.
Image
Authentic minnesotan dirt used to weigh it down. :awesome:

Also works as a mace for self defense.

Huh, I didn't know my driveway was made out of that, I wonder how much it's worth, let alone this portable.
