WTB/T:I need to build a pc that can run bioshock.

Post by gamer255 »

I need a graphics card,Motherboard,ram,ect.
I don't need a harddrive,case or fans.
I don't expect it to run at 50 fps.
Don't care if it's new or used.
NEEDS TO WORK.
Offer a price or something you want to trade for.

I have a Radeon X1600 Pro (AGP) lying around that can run it. It doesn't run Bioshock super-fantastically or anything, but it was pretty decent at 1024x768 when paired with a P4 and 1GB of DDR RAM. $45 shipped and it's yours.

Ehh, Pentium 4 @ 3ghz with HT enabled will get you like 24 fps in action seens, and like 40 max, with no enemies. If your really looking to play this good, try to get a dual core or faster amd.

With my 3.4GHz P4, 9800GTX+, and 4GB ram, I get at least 50 FPs from most any game, running with high settings at 1680*1050. I can even play Crysis at that res with somewhat decent settings.

I got a:
Pentium 4 @ 3 ghz HT
3gb DDR2 Ram
9600 GT 512 Mb

=Ok fps, but not playable enough for me, that I had to get it for Xbox 360, and it's much better. Oh and Crysis with a Pentium 4, no offense but don't even try it. As soon as you get to the large and open scenes or scenes with more than 3 enemies, you fps will drop to 20 something.

@NateN34 You neglect to mention the resolution you're running at. I used that Radeon X1600 Pro with the P4 at 1024x768, which is a fairly low resolution, and it was perfectly playable at lower settings.

And I wasn't pushing the P4; I was just mentioning my experience with the X1600.

1280x1024 resolution. Also the lower the resolution, will put more work on the CPU. And you fail to mention the CPU speed of your Pentium 4?

Please explain your logic here. :?

And I don't remember the speed of that P4. I haven't used it for anything where performance matters at all in some time. I want to say it was around 2.5Ghz, but I could be wrong.

I don't know, that should be decent for Bioshock. I guess for the resolution, people say that the lower the resolution, the more the work is on the CPU, so you should always try to run at your monitors native resolution(assuming you have a good graphics card), as it is easier on the CPU.

That's not exactly true. If it's an LCD, you need to run the monitor at the native resolution, or it would be blurry. It doesn't matter when using a CRT. A lower resolution uses less processing power (fewer pixels on the field to render), and therefore allows for a higher FPS.

if you want good speed an evga board and i5 are for under 500$,but evga will only run ndivia graphics. ram is cheap buy 4-6
gigs and you do need a decent speed hdd or it will bottleneck.this will run just about whatever you want.dont know much about graphics cards but 100$ sound card should be the most you'll ever need motherboards and ram are often underestimated.whats your budget?

Man, I ran it on my Celeron D at 3.2GHz and it ran fantastic. Bioshock isnt that hardware intensive. I actually had more problems running it on my gf newer machine.
