Xbox 360 Laptop Screen

Post by the_modder »

I am working on a 360 laptop. I got the screen all wired to the motherboard and it works great. It is 1260x768. I just wired it as vga. I know learned that in Ben hecks 3rd laptop he used DVI to VGA. My question is, would the switch be benefitial? Would all I need is something like http://cgi.ebay.com/2M-Gold-DVI-male-to ... 414b0aa9f2" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, and http://www.amazon.com/HDMI-VGA-HD15-Mal ... 690&sr=1-1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. Then of course I would trace the wiring and hardwire most of it. Does the xbox vga output not use all the possible quality that the screen can output? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

What signals does your screen take? I assume VGA and DVI. DVI would be better, but with the size and resolution you're working with, the difference would be minimal. I would leave it, especially with you already having the screen wired up and working.

Does your Xbox have HDMI? Getting an HDMI to DVI cable (or HDMI to HDMI) will give you the best quality. If your Xbox doesn't have HDMI, then VGA is the best you can get and using an adapter to hook it up to DVI isn't going to gain you anything.

And on a screen smaller than 19" the difference between Vga and Hdmi/Dvi will be so minimal as to not be noticeable by 99.9% of the people in the world.

Most of the time the difference between the two formats will come down the the chips used in the controller board anyway. I have seen several Lcd's where Vga was sharper and had better colors than Hdmi. And Vga resolution technically goes a lot higher than the 1080p of Hdmi :)

So I think you should stick with Vga.

My xbox has hdmi and my screen is 19" with dvi. But Im thinking that Im going to stay with the vga if nothing is going to be that differant, mainly because it was a pain tracing all the wires to get it soldered up. The quality looks great at this point though. Thanks for your input.

I also am trying to move the hardrive to a location to better fit everything in. Any idea on how I could get some extension cords and plugs rather than having to desolder the port from the motherboard and inserting my own wire. Just trying to elimate another semi lenghty process.

Thanks

If its only been a couple minutes, use that instead of making another post.

You can buy a longer SATA cable, but you're on your own with the other cable. You could cut the cable and add more in the middle. Just make sure you get all the wires right.
Actually, found a listing for both cables, 20".

Thanks Again.

Is that considered a standard SATA cable, when I search for sata components I find many things with differant styles.

Also, is there anyway to get get a smaller dvd player, or can I only use dvd drives that were once in a 360.

One last question, on ben hecks laptop he has the wifi antenna sticking out, is that required? I wouldnt think so but I have a complete aluminum case.

It would connect far better if the antenna is sticking out, yes.

I thought Ben used a DVI-HDMI adapter in his laptops, not a DVI-VGA adapter, though I may be incorrect. As I recall, he converted the HDMI out from the XBox and connected the monitor via DVI.
