SNESp Battery Question

Post by Biased »

I'm starting on my SNESp right now in order to finish it by the time MGC comes around. I'm using an official SNES with a second model board (the one in the first model case but a smaller board). I'm not going to LED mod my screen because I don't want to take any chance of ruining it taking the LCD apart and off. I know it'll cut battery life short, but that's okay for two reasons. One, I've got a little extra money to spend on batteries, and boy do I have space to throw stuff around in my case!

I remember someone posted somewhere in the forums about three credentials of batteries, of which you can only choose two - High power, small size, and low price. I'm definitely going for low price and high power. The bigger, cheaper battery packs should (I hope so anyway) give me enough power to compensate for the consumption of the non-modded Zenith screen AND add weight to the large, nearly empty case.

tl;dr Can anyone guide me to the best batteries and recharge circuit I can get at a low price that will still give me plenty of power and playing time on a non-LED-modded Zenith PS2 screen and an official SNES model 2 board? Size is not too much of an issue for the batteries.

Cheap and big - something to add weight to the portable.

Why would you want to add weight to an SNESp? I mean, are you having it flip out?

I'm putting it in a 360 shell so there's going to be a lot of empty space and I don't want it to feel flimsy.

So if I buy those batteries, how would I charge them if I had four of them wired in parallel?

You should get 4 of those batteries. 9400mAh at 7.2v. It'll be cheaper than the other one argelfraster, you'll get an extra 4200mAh, and you can arrange them more freely.

This is a good idea, I suggest you do this if you haven't bought the other battery pack yet.

I should. It seems simpler to charge Lithium batteries than Nickel-based batteries. Do I still only need one PCB to charge four batteries in parallel?

The PCB is used to protect the batteries from over-charging and probably exploding.
So yes, you need it.
And you will have two batteries in parallel and two in series.

Right, didn't look the first time that they were 3.7V :P

I'll have to order them next week sometime, after I get my next paycheck. Thanks for the help.
